(AP) – - A year ago, North Carolinacaught Miami’s Duke Johnson. Not this time. The way Johnson is playing right now, the Tar Heels had noshot.Johnson finished with 177 rushing yards - including a 90-yardtouchdown run that helped Miami blow the game open - and hisassault on his school’s record books continued as the Hurricanesrolled past the Tar Heels 47-20 on Saturday to keep themselves inthe thick of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Coastal Division race.“I refused to get run down again by North Carolina,” saidJohnson, whose 90-yard gain tied Miami’s all-time record forlongest rush.He wasn’t kidding. Last year, on a play where Johnson burstthrough the right side of the line, got to the sideline and headedfor the end zone, the Tar Heels caught Miami’s star in his finalstrides. This year, on an eerily similar-looking play, NorthCarolina’s M.J. Stewart closed the gap and dove for Johnsonaround the 10-yard line.“I made sure I got by him,” Johnson said.Brad Kaaya threw for 189 yards and three touchdowns for theHurricanes (6-3, 3-2). Joe Yearby rushed for 104 yards and CliveWalford had two scoring grabs, becoming the first Miami tightend to do so since Greg Olsen in 2005.Quarterback Marquise Williams had a pair of touchdown runsand Cayson Collins returned a fumble 39 yards for a score forNorth Carolina (4-5, 2-3).“It was very disappointing,” North Carolina coach LarryFedora said. “I don’t think we played too well up front, oranywhere.”North Carolina was outgained 494-258, the lowest yardage totalfor the Tar Heels since Nov. 5, 2011. In their last 36 games, theHeels had averaged 448 yards per outing.“They did an incredible job. My hat goes off to the Hurricanes,”Williams said.It was over by halftime, with Miami up 30-6 and leading 322-57in total yards - dominating defensive numbers against a team thathad topped the 35-point mark five times in its first eight gamesthis season.“Obviously, we’ve settled in,” Miami coach Al Golden said.“We’ve kind of settled in to who we are.”The Hurricanes paid homage to their past, putting RussellMaryland and Jerome Brown in the team’s Ring of Honor andhonoring Jim Kelly as the headline attraction of their homecomingweekend.Walford had a pair of 14-yard scoring catches in a 5-minutespan of the second quarter, Johnson got loose for his 90-yard scoreand the lead was 24 points at the break.SCORING SUMMARYSCORING 1 2 3 4 OT FNorth Carolina 0 6 7 7 – 20Miami 7 23 14 3 – 471st 5:43 UM Johnson 1 run (Badgley kick)2nd 13:45 UM Safety13:37 UNC Collins 39 fumble recovery (Weiler kick failed)5:17 UM Walford 14 pass from Kaaya (Badgley kick)2:55 UM Johnson 90 run (Badgley kick)0:26 UM Walford 14 pass from Kaaya (Badgley kick)3rd 12:37 UM Johnson 37 pass from Kaaya (Badgley kick)7:12 UM Yearby 1 run (Badgley kick)5:11 UNC Williams 10 run (Moore kick)4th 13:19 UM Badgley 37 FG9:20 UNC Williams 1 run (Moore kick)STATISTICSTEAM STATS UNC UMFIRST DOWNS 17 23RUSHES-YARDS (NET) 32-6 49-295PASSING YDS (NET) 252 199Passes Comp-Att-Int 24-38-1 12-19-0TOTAL OFFENSE PLAYS-YARDS 70-258 68-494Fumble Returns-Yards 1-39 0-0Punt Returns-Yards 2-24 1-(-2)Kickoff Returns-Yards 5-98 1-30Interception Returns-Yards 0-0 1-0Punts (Number-Avg) 5-44.2 5-50.4Fumbles-Lost 3-1 1-1Penalties-Yards 5-28 6-45Possession Time 24:59 35:01Third-Down Conversions 5 of 15 6 of 13Fourth-Down Conversions 0 of 4 1 of 1Red-Zone Scores-Chances 2-2 5-5INDIVIDUAL STATISTICSRUSHING: UNC – Morris 5-23, Logan 8-20, Switzer 1-6, Trubisky 1-5, Williams 14-4, Francis1-3, TM 2-(-55).
