LETTER FROMTHE FOUNDEROn October 21, 2006 MoLAA will hold its fourth auction exclusively devoted to the sale of Latin AmericanContemporary Fine Art.Over the last ten years I have spent a tremendous amount of time, effort and money traveling throughout allof the countries of Latin America, discovering artists who are well known in their own countries but little knownin the United States. Many of these artists have been purchased and by now represented in the over 1000works– sculptures and paintings in the Museum of Latin American Art.We now have the opportunity to bring these artists’ works here to Long Beach rather than spending weeksand months traveling around Latin America. We have contacted the artists that have contributed and soldworks to the museum over the last ten years and a majority of them are represented in this year’s auction. Inorder to make this year’s auction more successful we have offered prizes of $100,000 for mid-career artistsknown in their own countries for quality work. In addition, we have a large group of emerging artists that areoffering good quality pieces at excellent prices. A third category is established artists well known to everybodythat collects Latin American art and then pieces offered by collectors who wish to sell a part of their collection. This is your opportunity to get these little known pieces at excellent prices since the museum’s costs are muchlower and our staff have been working on this for over a year. These are all pieces that we would take intothe museum’s collection if they are not sold.In addition, you may be able to deduct a portion of your purchase price as a charitable contribution.Hope to see you on Saturday night, October 21st and Sunday afternoon, October 22nd for an auction of over270 pieces totaling over $1.5 million . The only thing like it on the West Coast of the United States– a rareopportunity.Robert GumbinerMoLAA Founder and Chairman of the Board3

MoLAAHISTORY & MISSIONFounded by the Robert Gumbiner Foundation in 1996, MoLAA is the only museum in the United States exclusivelydedicated to the representation of contemporary Latin American fine art. MoLAA is an important educationaland cultural resource for the community, offering internationally acclaimed exhibitions and relatedprograms to over 50,000 visitors each year.MoLAA’s mission is to educate the American public about contemporary Latin American art through the presentationof a significant representative permanent collection, dynamic exhibitions and related cultural andeducational programs. In addition to presenting well-known contemporary Latin American artists, the museumintroduces the public to artists renown in their native countries but who have had limited exposure inthe United States. The 800-piece permanent collection is comprised of paintings, sculptures and drawings created by artistswho have lived and worked in Latin America since World War II. MoLAA offers three temporary exhibitionsper year and rotates the artwork in the permanent collection galleries on a monthly basis to ensure visitorsalways have the opportunity to view new artwork. MoLAA is recognized as a Smithsonian Institution Affliate,a relationship that allows MoLAA to borrow and exhibit important works from the vast national collection.MoLAA is more than a museum. It has earned the reputation as a pan-Latino cultural center for its broadrange of public programs that communicate the diversity of Latin American art and culture. All programs aredesigned to complement the current exhibition and provide a cultural context for the art, thereby promotinga deeper understanding of the distinct peoples and regions of Latin America.

BRIDGETO THE AMERICASA Bridge to the Americas is a campaign to secure the future of the Museum of Latin American Art. Built fromthe “inside out,” MoLAA established its collection and programs before turning its attention to creating aworld-class facility. Today, MoLAA is expanding and renovating its museum campus in order to more effectivelyserve its growing local, national and international audiences. The expansion will more than double the museum's physical capacity to 55,000 square feet, enabling MoLAA tobroaden the range of exhibitions and programs offered to the community. The project includes the architecturalrenovation of the museum, addition of a 15,000 square-foot Sculpture Garden and creation of several newprogramming spaces. Upon completion in early 2007, MoLAA will be the most visible and representativemuseum of contemporary Latin American fine art in the United States, serving three times more visitors each year.Beginning April 21, 2006 we will begin our grand opening celebration that will end on May 5, 2006.Mark your calendars.5
