DEPARTS: MEET 1100 AT HEIDELBERG MAIN TRAIN STATION
RETURNS: APPROX. 1930
Cost: $19.00, Child (< 6): FREE
Pick up only in Heidelberg.
Join the USO as we travel by train to the beautiful “fairy-tale” town of
Bad Wimpfen for its famous Christmas Market! Bad Wimpfen has a rich
past, as it was an independent, imperial town where the Holy Emperor
used to stay when he was in the area. Parts of his fortress are left: one
of them, the red tower, is a museum now; the blue tower is the highest
building in the town and is still occupied by one of the last “guardians of
a tower” in Germany. Your knowledgeable guide, Christine, will take you
on tour of the town to share its rich history before free time for shopping
at the Christmas Market. Wear warm clothes, comfortable walking shoes, bring Euros for your
purchases, and don’t forget your camera!
Join the USO as we cruise a world-renown section of the Rhein.
We begin our trip with a cruise to the famous Loreley. You
will see all of the castles and beautiful scenery in this United
Nations World Heritage stretch of the Rhein, while you enjoy
lunch (drinks extra). Once we reach the Loreley, we cruise
back to Rüdesheim to explore the Christmas Market. There
are also museums and shops you may want to visit or take the
gondola-style cable car ride up to the Niederwalddenkmal—
more commonly known as Germania—a memorial built in the late 1800’s to commemorate the
foundation of the German Empire after the end of the Franco-Prussion War. From here you get
a beautiful overview of Rüdesheim and the Rhein Valley. Customers will want to bring Euros
for drinks, snacks, and purchases.
