continuing on to Sinaia. Here we will see the fairytale Peles Castle, built by King
Carol I in the 19th century. Continue on to Brasov where we will stay for two
nights at a four star hotel and where we will enjoy dinner tonight.
Day 4 — Brasov. Day at leisure. Relax and enjoy your
time in Brasov. Lunch will be included at the hotel
and dinner this evening will be at a local restaurant in
Poiana, a nearby resort set in a fantastic location in
the Carpathians.
Day 5 — Bran & Cernavoda. Depart Brasov this
morning and drive through the mountain-ringed
landscapes and past some of the area’s historical
monuments. We will stop at Bran to visit the world
famous ‘Dracula’s Castle’, built as a fortress in 1212

by the Knights of the Teutonic Order. Vlad Tepes, better known as Vlad the
Impaler, used the Castle as headquarters for his incursions into Transylvania.
Continue on to Ploiesti for a lunch stop, and finally to Cernavoda where we will
embark the MS Johann Strauss.
Day 6 — Danube Delta. The vast Danube Delta is one of the most important
wetlands left in Europe. From the port of Tulcea, join a boat trip to explore the
delta. Sail in the afternoon.
Day 7 — Bucharest. Arrive this morning in the port of Giurgiu for a drive to
Bucharest. We will explore the oulevards with their decidedly French style and
later tour the excellent Village Museum. Enjoy lunch in a typical Romanian
restaurant. Rejoin the ship in Giurgiu and reposition to Rousse for an overnight
mooring.
Day 8 — Veliko Tarnovo. From the port of Rousse, depart by coach for a
full-day tour to Veliko Tarnovo, the ‘City of the Tsars’. The Yantra River all but
encircles the city, a one time capital, and
the enchanting houses cling to a steep
gorge. The excursion will include lunch in
a local restaurant.
Day 9 — Belogradchik & Vidin. This
morning we will arrive in the Bulgarian
port of Vidin. From here, drive to
Belogradchik which is located close to the
Serbian border. The Belogradchik Rocks
are a famous Bulgarian beauty spot. The
sandstone has been weathered into all
manners of bizarre shapes and housed
amongst the rocks is an Ottoman fort,
built on the remains of a Roman
structure. The excursion will end with a
city tour of Vidin, including the Baba
Cruising the Iron Gates Gorge
Vida Fortress.

Day 10 — Cruising through the Iron Gates. Today the scenery becomes truly
spectacular as you cruise through the Iron Gates, a narrow Danube gorge
between the Carpathian and Balkan Mountains.
Day 11 — Belgrade. Arrive in Belgrade and join a
tour of the city’s main attractions, including

Kalemegdan fortress, Saint Sava Cathedral and
Tito’s Memorial. Sail in the early evening.
Day 12 — Pecs. Arrive in the Hungarian town of
Mohacs an area renowned for its paprika
production. Drive to the university town of Pecs, a
settlement dating back to Roman times. On a
walking tour see some of the beautifully restored
grand buildings, the Romanesque cathedral and the
Mosque which is now a Catholic church.
Day 13 — Budapest. Arrive this morning in the city of Budapest. We have the
day to explore Hungary’s elegant capital. Spend
the morning on an excursion that includes the
old quarter, a visit to the Matthias’ Church and
the Fishermen’s Bastion from where there are
stunning views of the city. After lunch on board
there will be free time in Budapest or the
opportunity to join an optional excursion to
the small Baroque town of Godollo.
Day 14 — Budapest to London. Disembark
after breakfast and return to
London by scheduled flight.
