In addition to activelyparticipating in global information society policy making activities, he drivesinstitutional strategy and helps with information society research anddevelopment projects. Levin has actively built communities of interest at aglobal, regional, national and local level and continues to focus on creatingnew information society jobs, driving economic and social development inAfrica.Levin currently serves on a number of governing bodies including the Board ofthe African Regional Internet Registry (AfriNIC), the .za Domain NameAuthority, the Internet Society (Cape Town Chairperson, National Vice-Chair),the Bandwidth Barn (a co-operative incubator) and various other public sectororganisations. Alan is the founding treasurer of the newly created - US based -Public Interest Registry.Levin created and implemented the e-government strategy for the ProvincialGovernment Western Cape and recently lead a team responsible forimplementing the first route name server in Africa. He continues to work onvarious e-government projects and is assisting the United Nations and UKDepartment For International Development on various strategic and researchprojects for the developing world. He participates in ICANN and operatesAfriDNS, providing information about African country code domain names. He fulfils the role of Radian CEO, as well as CEO if Vanilla, aniche Internet service provider (ISP). Radian has developed unequalledexperience in e-government, telecommunications and healthcare through workfor government entities in all spheres, providers and users oftelecommunications, and advising on the use of technology for the provision ofservices for the healthcare industry.He has a marketing background, developed whilst working for publicly listedinternational companies in both Africa and the UK. He has a strong processorientation, and is experienced in the management of technology and itsapplication to deliver against marketing goals.Mark’s current professional interests are in service process design, knowledgemanagement, and strategy consulting. Service management and knowledgeengineering are critical competitive elements in the knowledge economy; Markhas gained experience and insight into how these should be folded intobusiness strategy through his consulting work for Radian clients.Mark has an MBA from the University of Cape Town, as well as a first degree inPhysiology & Biochemistry.
