Welcome, Parkisto!
The underground parking solution being built
in Tampere is called Parkisto. The symbols
of underground parking and Parkisto tell a
multifaceted story of parking in Tampere.
In the future, the “P” sign denoting the
parking area will show whether the site is a
part of Parkisto or a part of the circle of aboveground
multi-storey car parks: The symbol for
the above-ground parking shows the angular
profile of a roof, while the symbol for Parkisto
sites have the arched shape of the roof of the
caves. Access underground is shown by a
triangle at the bottom of the symbol.
We wanted the Parkisto symbol to embody
light, which is an important element in
designing underground parking sites. In
addition to a sunrise or an illuminated cave,
the symbol can be interpreted to depict the
dividers of an archive folder, the circle formed
by the border lines of a parking space, or from
a technical perspective, the sturdy bolting
that supports the structures of the cave,
depicting the safety of the site.
The first stage of the Parkisto project,
“P-Hämppi”, is due to be completed this
November. The site is still unnamed, because
the current name, “P-Hämppi”, is unsuitable as
the final name for several reasons. Even if we
accepted the challenge of the letter ä, there
is one thing the people of Tampere cannot
ignore: even though Hämeenkatu runs all
the way from Hämeenpuisto to the railway
station, the name Hämppi traditionally refers
to the area around the city hall and the
Commerce building.
Therefore, we challenge the people of
Tampere to come up with a new name
for “P-Hämppi”. The competition will start
towards the end of the summer, and the aim
is to find a name that is easy to pronounce
for both Finnish and international customers
and which also describes the site. The true
challenge lies in considering the name as part
of the group of names of the underground
parking solution: it should fit under the name
Parkisto, and it should leave room for similarly
themed names for future Parkisto sites. All
things considered, the names present a
challenge, and a good job deserves a good
reward, so we will hold a raffle for everyone
who submits a suggestion, the prize being
a trip abroad. The Board of Finnpark Ltd will
decide on the winner.

Tervetuloa
Parkisto
Tampereen tuleva maanalainen pysäköintikokonaisuus
on nimeltään Parkisto. Maanalaisen
pysäköinnin ja Parkiston tunnukset
kertovat moniulotteista tarinaa tamperelaisesta
pysäköinnistä.
Pysäköintikohdetta ilmaisevasta P-merkistä
tunnistaa jatkossa, onko kohde osa Parkistoa
vai maanpäällistä pysäköintitalojen kehää:
Maanpäällisen pysäköinnin merkissä on
nähtävissä talon kulmikas kattoprofiili, kun
taas Parkistoon kuuluvan kohteen merkissä
on luolaston katon kaareva muoto. Kulkutietä
alas maan alle ilmennetään merkin alareunassa
olevalla kolmiolla.
Parkisto-nimi on selvästi pysäköinnillinen
mutta myös paljon enemmän. Se kuvastaa
sekä tulevaisuudessa maan alle rakentuvaa
keskusta-alueen kattavaa pysäköintiratkaisua
että Tampereen kaupungin pysäköinnillistä
kehitysstrategiaa. Autot viedään maan alle
säilöön, leikillisesti voisi sanoa arkistoon, ja
kaduilla kuljetaan entistä enemmän jalan tai
kevyen liikenteen kulkuvälineillä.
Tampereen maanalaisen pysäköintikokonaisuuden,
Parkiston,
ensimmäinen vaihe ”P-Hämppi”
etsii nimeä nimikilpailulla. Kilpailun
voittajan valitsee Finnpark Oy:n

Parkiston tunnuksen halusimme ilmentävän
maanalaisten pysäköintikohteiden suunnittelussa
tärkeää elementtiä, valoa. Tunnuksessa
voi nähdä auringonnousun tai valaistun luolan
ohella esimerkiksi arkiston välilehdet, pysäköintiruudun
reunaviivoista muodostuvan
kehän tai teknisestä näkökulmasta luolan rakenteita
tukevan vankan pultituksen, joka
kertoo kohteen turvallisuudesta.
Parkiston ensimmäinen vaihe ”P-Hämppi”
valmistuu tämän vuoden marraskuussa.
Kohde on vielä nimeä vailla, sillä työnimi ei
sovellu lopulliseen käyttöön useammastakin
syystä. Vaikka hyväksyisimme esimerkiksi
ääkkösten tuoman haasteen, on eräs asia, jota
me tamperelaiset emme voi ohittaa: Hämeenkatu
jatkuu Hämeenpuistosta aina rautatieasemalle
asti, mutta kyllä Hämppiä tallaava
tamperelainen perinteisesti liikkuu
Tampereen Raatihuoneen ja Commercen talon
kulmilla!
Niinpä haastamme tamperelaiset ideoimaan
nimeä ”P-Hämpille”. Nimikilpailun tavoitteena
on löytää ”P-Hämpille” nimi, joka kuvastaa
kohdetta ja on sekä suomalaisten että
kansainvälisten asiakkaidemme helppo lausua.
Todellinen haaste on pohtia nimeä osana
maanalaisen pysäköinnin nimiperhettä: sen
tulee sopia Parkisto-nimen alle ja seuraavat
Parkiston kohteet tulee voida nimetä saman
teeman mukaisesti. Nimistössä on siis haastetta
kerrakseen, ja hyvä työ pitää palkita: nimeä
ehdottaneiden kesken arvomme ulkomaanmatkan!
