Students seeking a certificate and/or degree who receive VA educational benefit s must maintain<br />

a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00. Students who fail to achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or<br />

above shall be placed on probation for one semester. If the student on probation fails to achieve a<br />

semester GP A of 2.00 or above, the student shall be reported to the Veterans Administration<br />

Regional Office as making unsatisfactory progress. If the student on probation achieves a<br />

semester GPA of 2.00 or above but has not achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00, the<br />

student may be continued on probation for one additional semester. Students who fail to achieve<br />

a cumulative GPA at the end of the second probationary semester shall be reported to the<br />

Veterans Administration Regional Office as making unsatisfactory progress.<br />

Hazelwood Act<br />

Veterans who have no remaining GI Educational benefits or veterans of the Spanish-American<br />

War through the Persian Gulf War may be eligible for benefit s under the Hazelwood Act. To be<br />

eligible, individuals must currently be residents of Texas and must have been resident s of Texas<br />

at the time they entered the armed forces. They must also have an honorable discharge from the<br />

service. Hazelwood unused benefits may be assigned to veterans’ children.<br />

In order to qualify for benefits under the Hazelwood Act, the veteran must file the following<br />

documents with the Student Financial Services Office:<br />

1. A copy of the DD214;<br />

2. A complete transcript of college and military transcripts prior to the first semester of<br />

registration;<br />

3. A signed document disclosing the number of semester credit hours funded by Hazelwood<br />

Act.<br />

Waivers/Exemptions<br />

State tuition waivers provide student s with exemptions from certain tuition and fee charges in<br />

public colleges. Contact either the Student Financial Services Office or the Educational Services<br />

Office for additional information for a specific waiver. A few of the state waivers are listed below:<br />

Children Whose Parents Receive Texas Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)<br />

Early High School Graduates<br />

Certified Educational Aid Exemption<br />

Children in Foster Care (See Student Financial Services Office for criteria)<br />

FPC Payout Plan<br />

FPC offers a payout plan for tuition, fees, dorm and meals through the FACTS Payment Plan.<br />

Students may view the options and enroll online through FPC’s web site: www.fpctx.edu<br />

(Student’s tab, Student Financial Services, SFS Forms, Payout Application). Different payment<br />

options and methods are available.<br />
