OUR MILLAGE STORY
In 1994 the City made the difficult decision of closing its Parks and Recreation Department in order to offset deficits in
its General Fund. At that time a citizens group successfully obtained over 8,000 signatures in a petition drive to ask
voters to approve a dedicated millage to continue operations of the Parks and Recreation Department.
In 1995, a five year, 1.5 mil levy was approved by voters. And in 2000, voters were asked to extend the millage on a
permanent basis. Their overwhelming approval allows for the operation of the Parks and Recreation Department both
today, and for future generations.
