14 Natural Gas Meter (continued) Self-read Customers If you are set up as a self-read customer, we will send you a letter each month, in a separate mailing from your bill, reminding you how and when to read your natural gas meter. If your meter is inside and you are set up as a self-read customer, please make sure your window card is up on the days scheduled. You may also call in your read to our easy-to-use automated customer service line at 888-890-5554 or use the secure online entry at www.blackhillsenergy.com. If we do not receive a company or customer monthly meter read, we will estimate your bill based on usage history, weather and other factors. When an actual reading is obtained, we’ll then adjust your bill to show actual usage. Farm Taps If you are a “farm tap” customer, it means that the interstate pipeline has agreed to provide you with natural gas from a pipeline that runs on or near your property. Black Hills Energy does not own this pipeline or the line from the interstate pipeline to your premises or out buildings. Black Hills Energy has agreed by contract with a supplier to perform services on farm taps, including an annual meter reading and a refill of the product that gives natural gas its distinctive odor. Unlike most natural gas customers who are served on our distribution system, farm tap customers are responsible for the safety and condition of the fuel line running from the meter to their facilities. If there are leaks in your fuel line, significant safety issues could be created. For this reason, it is extremely important for you to be aware of the location and condition of your fuel line and provide regular meter readings. We require farm-tap customers to read their own meters each month. If we don’t receive your meter read for two consecutive months, a Black Hills Energy employee may be sent to read your meter. Like other self-read customers, you will receive a letter from us each month, in a separate mailing from your bill, telling you how and when to read your meter. Call in your monthly meter reading to our customer service center at 888-890-5554 or enter your meter reading at www.blackhillsenergy.com.
Avoiding a Service Disconnection Late payment charges Bills not paid by the due date will be subject to a late payment fee. (If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please see page 6 on ways to manage your bill.) If you cannot pay on time, please call us immediately. We want to help eligible customers schedule a payment arrangement or clear up concerns rather than be forced to interrupt your service. If payment is going to be delayed, we need to know that right away, too. If extended travel takes you away from home, please pay in advance or call us to arrange for your bill to be forwarded or sent to someone you designate as responsible for prompt payment. To Receive Help Contact Black Hills Energy at 888-890-5554 to discuss your circumstances, establish a payment agreement and make an initial, partial payment. If necessary, a Black Hills Energy customer service associate can provide information on applying for financial assistance from outside sources. If you do not pay your bill or make payment arrangements, we will notify you that your service will be disconnected on a specified date. If being disconnected would present a danger to the health of any permanent resident of the premises, please let us know immediately.
