Games
Important information about the new resident and business
parking protection area (RBPPA) in Greenwich

Your existing parking permit will be valid in your
area in the RBPPA and will cover the extended
hours of the traffic and parking measures.

Section A
How to register your vehicle
You will need to register your vehicle for a free parking permit if you live or
work in an event day zone or do not have a permit for an existing CPZ in
the resident and business parking protection area (RBPPA) and:
– you are a resident or business in the RBPPA; and
– own any type of vehicle that uses on-street parking (please note that
motorcycles and mopeds are exempt).
Once you register, you will be sent a free paper parking permit that will enable
you to park within a specific zone of the RBPPA during the Games
(see attached map for area).
1 Go to www.2012gamesparkingpermits.com or phone 0300 111 2012 and
check if your postcode falls within the RBPPA.
2 If it does, enter your vehicle registration number to check if your vehicle
has been pre-registered for a permit.
3 If your vehicle has been pre-registered, follow the on-screen instructions to
submit your request. This will action the distribution of your 2012 Games
parking permit. You will also automatically be sent two visitors’ parking
permits through the post, for your use. See Section C to find out how visitors’
parking permits work.
4 If your postcode does not fall into the RBPPA, you do not need to take
any further action as you will not be affected by the changes.
My vehicle has not been pre-registered
I am a resident
If your postcode falls within the RBPPA, but the online registration process
shows that your vehicle has not been pre-registered, you will be guided to the
section on the website that allows you to register it. To do this, you need to
show that:
– you are responsible for the vehicle; and
– you are a resident of the borough.
You can find information on how to prove vehicle ownership or residency
in Section D.

I am a business
If your postcode falls within the RBPPA, but the online registration process
shows that your business vehicle has not been pre-registered, you will be
guided to the section that allows you to register it. To do this, you will need
to show that:
– the vehicle is essential to the day to day running of the business; and
– your business address is within the RBPPA.
You can find more information on how to prove vehicle ownership and your
company’s details in Section D.

phone service, please call 0300 777 2012.
If you do not own a vehicle but are expecting visitors, you will be able to obtain
free visitors’ parking permits. Go to Section B for information on how
to do this.
Section B
Registering for visitors’ parking permits if you
do not own a vehicle
1 Go to www.2012gamesparkingpermits.com or phone 0300 111 2012 and
check if your postcode falls into the RBPPA.
2 If it does, follow the on-screen instructions to submit your request.
3 If your postcode does not fall into the RBPPA, you do not need to take any
further action as your visitors will not require a permit to park in your area.
You can find information on how visitors’ permits operate in Section C.

Section C
Visitors’ parking permits
Each household is allowed two free visitors’ parking permits. Visitors’ parking
permits are reusable and will enable your visitors to park anywhere within your
zone in the RBPPA during the Games for a period of 24-hours.
Please note: your existing visitors’ parking vouchers will not be valid between
27 July and 9 September and cannot be used.
In order to obtain visitors’ parking permits, you will need to either:
– register your vehicle (following process in Section A); or
– register your residence or business and set up an account (following the
process in Section B).
If you register your vehicle, your visitors’ parking permits will be automatically
sent to you along with your vehicle permit.
If you register your residence, your visitors’ parking permits will be sent to you
after you have completed your registration.
How to use your visitor permits
Simply give your visitor the permit to display in their window on their arrival
and retrieve it on their departure. The permits can be reused throughout the
Games.
Please note: the provision of a visitors’ parking permit is not a guarantee of
parking availability.

Section D
Showing proof of residency and vehicle
ownership
If you go to register and your details are not found on the system, you might
need to show proof of residency. This will be a photocopy of one of the
following documents, showing your name and address:
– a public utility bill (for gas, electricity, water or a land line phone) issued
within the last three months;
– a rent statement issued by the Royal Borough of Greenwich or housing trust
(for the current financial year);
– a council tax statement (for last three months);
– a letter from your bank issued within the last three months;
– a tenancy agreement; or
– a benefit or pension book.
Please note: mobile phone bills will not be accepted as proof of residency.
If you have recently moved into the area, you will need:
– a legally drawn letter from the landlord or estate agent valid for the full life
of the permit; or
– a solicitors letter confirming completion.
Please note: hand written documents will not be accepted.
All documents required as evidence can be scanned in and uploaded online
at www.2012gamesparkingpermits.com. Alternatively, you can send us these
documents through the post. The address details will be provided through our
website or call centre when you get in touch to register.
Showing proof of vehicle ownership or usage
If you are a resident
To prove your vehicle ownership or usage, you will need to provide a
photocopy of one of the following documents:
– the vehicle registration document (V5C); or
– the vehicle’s insurance certificate.

To prove vehicle ownership or usage of a newly purchased vehicle, you
will need to provide a photocopy of one of the following documents:
– a new keepers supplement (V5C/2) showing your name and address; or
– the vehicle’s insurance certificate.
If you are a business
To prove your business vehicle ownership and registration, you will need
to provide the following details:
– your company contact details including address, telephone number
and email; and
– vehicle registration number of up to 10 company vehicles.
If your vehicle registration numbers are not found on the system, you will also
need to send in a letter on company headed notepaper stating them.

Questions and answers
About the permits
When is the deadline for registering
for a 2012 Games parking permit?
You should register for a 2012
Games parking permit by 14 July
to make sure you get your permit
approved before the new resident
and business parking protection area
(RBPPA) is put in place.
When will I receive my permit?
You should receive your permits within
five working days of registering.
What will happen if I want to park on
a street within the RBPPA and don’t
have a 2012 Games parking permit?
Any vehicle that is parked in
contravention of the new temporary
restrictions will be issued with a
penalty charge notice or could be
removed.
Can I use my existing CPZ permit to
park within the RBPPA?
Yes, you can, but only within the
controlled parking zone that your
permit is valid for and not in other
parts of the RBPPA. Also note that all
existing CPZ parking permits will be
valid for the extended hours and extra
days that controls are in force.
I live on Greenwich Peninsula.
Am I eligible for a permit?
Properties on Greenwich Peninsula
that are currently not eligible for
parking permits will not be entitled
to 2012 Games parking permits or
visitors’ parking permits.
Qualifying for permits
I have a company vehicle. Can I
have a 2012 Games permit?
Yes, you can. However, you will
not need one if you already have
an existing permit for a CPZ which
falls within the RBPPA. If you do not
have an existing permit, you will
need to register your details online
and provide us with a letter from
your employer, on company headed
paper, and a photocopy of the V5C
by post or online when you register.
I have a hired/courtesy vehicle.
Can I have a permit?
Yes. You will need to register your
details online and provide a copy
of the hiring or leasing agreement
showing your name and address by
post or online when you register.

I have a Blue Badge. Will I need
a parking permit?
No, as long as you abide within
the rules of the national Blue Badge
scheme during the Games.
My family and I own several cars. Will
we be able to get multiple permits?
Yes. As long as you can prove that you
are responsible for the vehicles, you
can arrange for multiple permits.
Special circumstances
I am organising a function and many
of my guests are arriving by car. How
can I get more permits?
If your visitors’ parking permit
allocation is not enough, please
contact the Royal Borough of
Greenwich on 020 8921 2012 from
11 June. However, we advise you to
encourage your guests to travel by
public transport whenever possible
during this time.
I rely on regular visits from family and
carers for my health. What should I do?
Private carers will be able to use your
visitors’ permits when visiting you.
Other healthcare professionals will be
registered on an exemption list so as to
ensure that they are able to park in the
RBPPA. If you need additional visitor
parking permits to cover visits from
informal carers, please contact the
Royal Borough of Greenwich on
020 8921 2012 from 11 June to
discuss your needs.
Can I still receive deliveries during
the Games?
Yes. There will be no change for
loading or unloading delivery vehicles
on restricted roads. However, there
will be no stopping allowed on
any roads which fall into the
Olympic Route Network. Go to

Working in the area
I am having building work done and
the workers need to park in the street.
Is this OK?
If the work is for a short time, please use
your visitors’ parking permits. However,
if it is a long-term building project
please contact the Royal Borough of
Greenwich on 020 8921 2012 from
11 June to discuss your needs.
I work in the event zone. Can I have
a permit?
Business permits are only available
for the essential running of a business.
Speak to your employer about whether
this applies to you and your role in
the company.

New to the area
I have just moved into the area.
What do I need to do?
If you have not registered your vehicle
to your new address, you will need
to register online and provide proof
of residency and a copy of your V5
return slip by post or online when you
register.
Parking enforcements
What should I do if I receive a
parking fine during the Games?
Penalty charge notices (PCN),
commonly known as parking fines,
will be issued for all vehicles which
do not adhere to the parking
restrictions. If you receive a PCN,
please don’t ignore it. You have the
option to either pay it or appeal it. To
pay or appeal your PCN, follow the
instructions on the back of your ticket.

I do not have access to the internet
and need some help to register for
