Victoria Grange Aged Care
Victoria Grange Aged Care is a purpose built residential aged care facility situated in Vermont South, Victoria.
The facility, which offers high care and low care ageing in place, has highly committed, professional staff
providing excellent care to residents.
At Australian Unity we recognise that the transition to an aged care facility can be a sensitive and difficult
time for a new resident and their family. This is why the team at Victoria Grange Aged Care focus on resident
wellbeing and encourage family and friends to play an active part in residents’ lifestyles.
There are over 100 rooms in the aged care building, all with classic interiors and quality furnishings. The décor
and Victorian style architecture make for a welcoming living environment. All rooms contain a single ensuite
bathroom and most have spacious balcony courtyard access.

Some of the services offered at Victoria Grange Aged Care are subject to availability and are provided
on a fee for service basis.

About aged care
The Commonwealth Government regulates and subsidises the provision of residential care for older people
who are unable to live independently in their own home. There are two levels of care, officially referred to
as low level residential care and high level residential care, more commonly known as hostels and nursing
homes respectively.
Before you can become a resident of our facility you must be assessed and approved for care by an
Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). ACATs are made up of doctors, nurses and social workers and they
are located at public hospitals. If you require an ACAT assessment contact your local hospital or speak to
your local doctor. In certain circumstances the ACAT will see you in your own home or in hospital
in order to make an assessment.
It is important to talk to your local ACAT because they will be able to explain the different care options
available to you.
Entry into Victoria Grange Aged Care is subject to availability and based on the specific care needs of
the individual.
Once you have been assessed as requiring residential care you must have a financial assessment completed
by Centrelink. You will need to make an appointment with your local Centrelink office.
Before accepting the offer to move to Victoria Grange Aged Care it is recommended that you discuss
the resident agreement with your financial and legal advisors. Staff are unable to provide financial or
legal advice.

Living in a residential aged care facility
Residents living in an aged care facility have the same civil, legal, consumer and personal rights as other
members of the community.
A resident agreement secures tenure for the resident. This agreement complies with the Aged Care Act
1997 (Cth). It is also important to be aware of the Aged Care Complaints Scheme which allows anyone to
make a complaint about any issue that affects a person who is, or was, eligible to receive Commonwealth
funded aged care services.

Accommodation and care fees
Accommodation and care fees and charges are set by the Commonwealth Government and change when
pension rates change, which usually occurs twice a year.
Depending on personal and financial circumstances you may be asked to pay:
− A basic daily care fee
− An accommodation payment in the form of a charge for high care and in the form of a bond for low care
− A daily income-tested fee as determined by Centrelink.

Our heritage
Originally formed from the merger of two friendly societies, Manchester Unity Victoria (established in
1840) and the Australian Natives’ Association Friendly Society (established in 1871), Australian Unity
has a long history of looking after the wellbeing of Australians. A merger with Grand United Friendly
Society in 2005 has further strengthened this.
