Course Overview<br />

The aim of this course is to provide delegates who<br />

have a current offshore survival training certificate<br />

with sufficient training to enable them to act as<br />

coxswains of twinfall lifeboats.<br />

Course Structure<br />

The delegates will use theory, demonstration,<br />

practice and assessments to gain a basic level<br />

of understanding and awareness of the areas<br />

outlined above. During the training, delegates will<br />

be required to demonstrate their level of knowledge<br />

and understanding of the training programme<br />

content. Formal assessment will be used to<br />

ascertain the delegate’s competence.<br />

Course Content<br />

The syllabus focuses on:<br />

• Coxswains’ roles and responsibilities<br />

• Craft handling, recovery of persons from<br />

water, use of controls, steering craft,<br />

launch and recovery<br />

• Moving TEMPSC to a safe area<br />

• Preparing craft for evacuation<br />

• Towing and pacing<br />

• Use of compass<br />

• Use of radio, pyrotechnics and emergency<br />

equipment<br />

Prerequisites<br />

This programme is open to delegates who are in<br />

possession of either a current BOSIET or FOET<br />

certificate or suitable alternative certification (see<br />

Survival Section for details).<br />

Target Audience<br />

This programme is designed to meet the initial<br />

training and assessment requirements for offshore<br />

lifeboat coxswains.<br />

Certification<br />

An OPITO-approved certificate will be awarded to<br />

delegates who successfully complete the training<br />

and assessments.<br />

Revalidation<br />

Every two years.<br />

Venue<br />

Held at <strong>Petrofac</strong> Training Services Quay, North<br />

Esplanade East, Aberdeen.<br />

Health<br />

All delegates will be asked to complete a<br />

standard medical questionnaire prior to course<br />

commencement.<br />
