Tom Raggatt
Harry Hastwell
Welcome to HWR Media & Communications
The company, known then as Hastwell Media, was established in 1972 by the late Harry Hastwell.
Harry and his son Mark built an enviable reputation as leaders in the media and advertising
industries in South Australia and Australia.
HWR Media & Communications, hereafter HWR, was formed on 1 July 1982 through the
amalgamation of South Australia’s three leading independent media representation companies…
• Hastwell Media
• Williamson & Associates
• Greg Rouse Media
In 1989, after close to ten years with News Corp, Tom Raggatt joined
the organisation thus HWR became Hastwell Williamson Raggatt
Pty Ltd.
For thirty-eight years HWR has evolved into one of the largest
independent media representation organisations in Australia.
Currently over 100 media organisations entrust HWR to provide advice
and information on their behalf to customers in South Australia,
Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria and the Northern Territory.
Market Evolvement
In response to our customers’ needs, in 1996 HWR purchased graphic
design firm, Smart Designs and expanded both its publishing and
marketing services area. This was a significant milestone.
In addition, at this time we began our digital integration strategy,
completing work for General Motors Holden amongst other clients.
The development role has now expanded to a full service digital
agency providing advertising sales, web site development, email
marketing and performance measurement.
This enables us to provide all our clients
with a uniquely powerful network of
contacts and market intelligence plus the
proven ability to grow advertising sales
from our markets. This benefits our clients
in catering to their media needs not only
throughout Australia but the world.
HWR holds a unique position in the South
Australian and indeed Australian marketplace
due to the number of strategic and
influential organisations we work with
such as Toyota, Mitsubishi and South
Australian Government departments.
These relationships enable us to offer
our clients opportunities first, before the
general market is aware of them.
offers incremental reach and instant material currency to advertisers who have used traditional forms
of media in the past.
HWR, through our representation of ninemsn has been directly involved in digital campaigns for the
“The 2-wire bus buffer
revolution has begun!”
The 2-wire bus has been at its limit or falling down for too long.
Now the solution is here!
Most 2-wire bus designers have faced problems without the right solution. Problems can
occur on a 2-wire bus when the wrong bus buffer or no bus buffer is used.
• Existing bus buffers have large input-output offsets; this leaves little margin for external
noise or a loss in signal.
• Due to their large input-output offsets, most existing bus buffers can’t be inserted in multi-drop
or back-to-back in a system.
• Problems can occur when the number of devices on the bus or the length of the bus lines
has increased the capacitance to its maximum.
The IES5501 bus buffer fi xes all these problems.
Expand without the hassle, plug it in and see!
Welcome from the Chair
CaRNIVAL
Nov 2008
Welcome to our fi rst Newsletter for the 2009 Festival. Less than 6 months to go and, like all
expectant parents, we are looking forward to the fi rst appearance of the Festival with a mixture of
excitement and perhaps a little apprehension. When the Program appears soon you will see for
yourself just what a huge and varied array of events this Festival will contain; many will be familiar
to those of you who have seen previous celebrations, and there are many which are innovative or a
different approach to old favourites.
I would like to thank everybody involved, either directly or indirectly: Festival Manager, John
Pullman, who brings experience and dedication to his position; Events Manager, Samantha
Foreman, who puts her fl air and eye for detail to everything she does; the members of the
Festival Committee who bring ideas, enthusiasm and passion to the direction of the Festival;
Event Convenors and their Committees who put their hands up to devote great time and energy
to organising each event; our very generous sponsors, without whom we would not even be able
to start organising an event of this scale; Friends of the Festival, who show their particular and
enthusiastic support of the Festival by joining their own exclusive club. And, fi nally, my thanks to
you all for your interest and support by attending this great celebration of the Barossa and its many
The word carnival evokes thoughts of fun and frivolity, and what
better way to kick off the Barossa Vintage Festival than at this new
Activities are planned throughout the day with CaRNIVAL being
designed around entertainment and enjoyment for the entire family.
Activities for children will include Life Be In It – sumo wrestling,
painting and story telling. A number of performances are also
planned including Cool 4 Kids, Heritage Hotspots, Marananga Brass
Band, Gladenbach Dance Group and the Barking Ants to name but a
few. And if that’s not enough to entice the whole family, it
has been decided that the spacious grounds at Seppeltsfi eld will
Festival tradition!
CaRNIVAL commences at 11am and concludes at 8pm
HWR is committed to achieving the highest level of advertising sales for our
media partners and to delivering premium quality for our clients at all times.
Every product, and every service we provide is delivered with this in mind.
After almost 40 years in the business, we’re proud of our achievements.
We’re also proud to be recognised for these achievements through such
recognition as the Pica Awards.
It’s also rewarding to be recognised by our Government leaders and industry
partners.
At HWR Media & Communications, “It’s all in the Thinking”
Environment
When it comes to the long term future of our environment and our sustainable
future, HWR believes every decision we make as a business matters. We understand
that it is our corporate and social responsibility to continually strive towards world’s
best practice in environmental management.
We are a certified Carbon Neutral company and we are committed to minimising
the impact on the environment. We actively seek “green supplier” options and
strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
HWR retains the services of Balance Carbon to conduct annual carbon emissions
audits. From the audit, indications show that we will produce 30 tonnes of CO2 per
year, which we offset through the purchase of fully accredited carbon credits.
We have established environmental objectives and targets to achieve ongoing
reduction to the impact on our environment, including a comprehensive recycling
program and printing minimisation policy. All our staff are encouraged to look for
new ways to improve our environmental performance.
Throughout our office, re-cycled paper is used, from printing to the bathroom. All
non-essential electrical appliances and computers are turned off at power points
each night with the exception of refrigerators.
HWR has put the principles of reduce,
re-use and re-cycle into everyday practice
and we are proud to say that, together
with the support of our customers, we
believe we are making a difference.
