BBA
Bachelor of Business
Administration
The growth of Indian economy over the last 15 years has been tremendous. The opening up of Indian economy has led to free inflow
of foreign direct investment (FDI) along with modern cutting edge technology, which has increased the importance of private sector
in Indian economy considerably. Previously, the Indian market was ruled by the government enterprises but the scene in Indian
market changed as soon as the markets were opened for investments in 1991. This saw the rise of the Indian private sector
companies in Banking, Retail, Telecommunication, Automobiles, Insurance, Manufacturing etc. which prioritized customer’s need
and speedy service through skilled manpower.
Working in a large, modern, international organisation, a medium sized company or even a small start-up firm requires a range of
business capabilities. The managerial activities at small enterprises are a responsibility of owners while in multinational companies
and large scale organisations, managerial responsibility is given to a hierarchy of skilled and certified professionals.
The most valuable employees are those who have not only a sound knowledge and understanding of the various parts of a business,
but those who are quick learners and team players with leadership potential. Business activities are multifaceted and thus call for
professionally qualified experts in business administration.
The Bachelor of Business Administration programme at JIMS is designed around a set of modules that are common to all pathways.
These modules cover general business functions, strategic management and organisational analysis. These modules also guide a
aspirant towards the achievement of the generic post-graduate goals of strategic awareness, developing leadership potential and
Visit to Governer’s House: Haryana
Inter-College Debate Competition
JIMS students visited the Governer’s House and were addressed by
Hon’ble Governor of Haryana Dr. Kidwai on future of youth for growth and
development of India.
Department of Mass Communication had organised an inter-college debate
on the topical issue of “Media Aam Aadmi Ko Andhvishwas Ki Aur Ghasit
Raha Hai” on November 18, 2010 in the TV studio. Teams from 16 leading
Colleges and University participated in the debate. The arguments took a
very interesting turn when students gave examples from T.V. Shows – Balika
Vadhu , Na Anna is Desh Laado, news coverage – Aap ki Adalat, Rakhi ka
Insaaf, astrological predictions in columns of newspapers like Aap ke Sitare
and old time beliefs professed to common man by media. Many students
justified the role of media in this direction since Indian traditions and culture
is based on these beliefs while others favoured and thanked the media for
letting the modern generation aware of the old rituals and customs. The
event was judged by eminent judges from the media and senior faculty
members of the Department of Mass Communication.
Inter Departmental Debate –
“Are Indians Patriotic”
Hindi Divas
A inter-departmental debate competition was organised by the Department
of Mass Communication wherein students students gave many interesting
arguments and defined Patriotism in their own language. The event was
chaired by Mr. Yogesh Vajpayee, a leading Journalist from Indian Express
along with Ms. Indu Khanna, Ex-Director, I.P. College who judged the students
on the basis of their content, voice modulation, confidence & delivery.
‘Hindi Divas’ was celebrated with all its pride in the entire JIMS fraternity
on September 14, 2010. Innovative competitions were organised to provide
a common platform to all participants to express their thoughts in Hindi
language. The event impressed upon the students the importance of Hindi
language as a medium of communication with people at large.
B.Sc. HCM
B.Sc. Hospitality & Catering
Management
B.Sc. ATHM
B.Sc. Airline, Tourism
& Hospitality Management
A blend of Art & Science; Technology & Tradition are taking
place in the Hospitality Catering and Tourism Industry. This
sector is predicted to triple in size within the next 10 years
and become the world’s largest Industry by the year 2020,
generating enormous opportunities for well qualified individuals
armed with credentials from an elite Institute like JIMS. These
Graduates will be in great demand to assume exciting and
rewarding positions anywhere in the World. Society has evolved
from eating to relishing food. The “Cook” has become a “Chef”.
The “Waiter” has become a “Steward”. Hotels are a part of the
Hospitality Industry. To begin with the Indian Hotel Chains like
ITC Ltd., The Jaypee Group, Oberoi Group, Asian Hotels Ltd.,
Hotel Leela Venture and Hotel Corporation of India are leaders
providing a healthy competition and setting international
standards. Many International Hotels including Sheraton,
Hyatt, Radisson, Meridien, Four Seasons Reagent and Marriot
International are already established in the Indian Market and
are still expanding. Tourism is also now factored as a catalyst
in the development of the Hospitality Industry.
People friendly, a pleasing personality, good communication,
cheerful, sunny disposition, an ability to put in laborious work
hours are some of the pre-requisites for a job in Hospitality and
Tourism Sector.
In the Country Brand Index (CBI) survey conducted by
FutureBrand - a leading global brand consultancy, India has
been ranked : ‘Best Country Brand for Value-for-money’; 2nd
‘Best Country Brand for History’; 5th ‘Best Country Brand
for Authenticity, Art & Culture’; 4th ‘Best New Country for
Business’. India has also made it to the list of ‘rising stars’ or the
countries that are likely to become major tourist destinations in
the next five years. The Indian Hotel Industry is adding over
90,000 more rooms across the country in the next five years to
meet the demand. The contribution of the Hotel Industry to the
country’s GDP was 6.1 per cent in 2008-09 and is expected
to grow further. The government’s decision to substantially
upgrade 28 regional airports in smaller towns and privatization
and expansion of Delhi and Mumbai airport has improved
the business prospects of Hospitality Industry in India. The
up gradation of national highways’ connecting various parts
of India has opened new avenues for the development of
budget hotels in India. Increased competition and increase
in demand has consolidated the hospitality segment, whilst
opening up a plethora of opportunities. Fierce competition has
led to innovative ideas by hotels, thereby delivering impressive
hospitality products and services for inbound and outbound
visitors. This forecasts a bright future for all those who choose
to make a career in the fields of Travel & Tourism.
Keeping in view the increasing demand for professionals in this
field JIMS along with its flagship programme on Hospitality
& Catering Management now introduces a course on B.Sc.
Airlines, Tourism & Hospitality Management to promote the
traditional Indian value of ‘Athithi Devo Bhava’.
Interior Design
130
Making Tomorrow Better than Today

World is integrating fast and consumerism is growing. Therefore, the market economy is expanding. These factors contribute
to changes in the Interior Design Industry. Not only the interior design concepts are changing but the interior is becoming more
attractive and there is optimum utilization of space. The dependency on technology has increased a lot and it is appropriate to resort
to newer technologies that give a distinct dimension to interiors every time a design is conceptualized.
Interior Designing in India has become a growing Industry with booming real estate market. The interior design market in India is
all set to register a 60 % growth rate this year. With the real estate sector expected to grow by 40-45%, the interior design market
is catching up fast. With the middle-class segment now ready to spend on decorating their homes, this market is going to witness
a phenomenal scale-up. Apart from new houses, the practice of furnishing of old houses has also picked up in recent times. Today,
a mere change in the design can get one, a better return on investments (RoI), giving a new dimension to a property altogether.
Interior Designing deals with a lot of activities related to creativity and imagination, therefore Interior Designers must be imaginative,
creative, self-motivated and good at listening. Apart from that they must have good interpersonal and management skills. They
should be aware of the changes in trends and keep up with the latest styles. Excellent communication skill is essential for an interior
designer, as they need to describe their ideas and requirements to clients and other professionals such as builders and electricians.
In addition, they also need to be able to inspire confidence in their clients and at times accept criticism. They should have a
high level of technical knowledge about past and present styles of architecture, computer-aided design skills, artworks, building
materials, infrastructure, texture and lighting. They should be able to calculate the cost of a design and to work out a budget best
suited to their client. The Interior Design programme at JIMS is designed in order to analyse the client’s needs, goals, safety and
lifestyle requirements and integrate this information into a design that is pleasing to the eye and is functional.
Making Tomorrow Better than Today

B.Sc. MT *
B.Sc. Multimedia Technology
Multimedia and animation is a field that has no boundaries for the imaginative mind with virtually no limits to remuneration.
Multimedia is the merging of various media like audio, video, pictures, lights and content, to create a single presentation. Multimedia
is a widely used application in nearly each and every field today. Jobs in multimedia designing are found in the fields of animation,
television and film production, advertising, interactive media and art direction.
With rising demand for talented professionals, this field is booming with opportunities. The Animation and Visual Effects Industry
within India has seen an overall growth of 13.6% over 2008 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 18.7% in the coming years to
reach ` 46.6 billion by 2014. (Source: FICCI & KPMG).
Apart from increasing usage in films and events, multimedia and animation finds itself as the main ingredient in the making of video
games. The global Gaming Industry was estimated at ` 7.9 Billion and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 50.7% in the coming years
to reach ` 32 billion by 2014. (Source : FICCI & KPMG).
The Indian Animation Industry will grow at a compounded annual rate of 30% to reach a market size of $1.7 billion by 2012 and
add over three lakh skilled animators, and will undertake all its production activities within India instead of spending a fortune
abroad in making advanced and high-tech animated movies and advertisements. This growth will lead to a huge demand for skilled
professionals like creative animators, conceptualisers, visualisers, 3D modellers, character designers and digital effect artists to
handle multimedia software’s like 3D Studio Max, Maya and Tictactoon.
A career in the Multimedia Design field is a smart choice and a great opportunity for those with imagination, creativity, innovation
and the drive to produce projects for many different consumers.
