Description: Experience the country’s oldest and largest regional
gallery, with its amazing permanent collection and busy program
of temporary exhibitions. Take a tour or walk at your own pace with
the free iPod tour. Buy local jewellery and ceramics in the shop and
enjoy handmade chocolates in the café.
Type of operation: Permanent collection on display, temporary
exhibitions. Also gift shop and visitor information.
Location: Located in Ballarat’s CBD.
Opening times: 9am-5pm daily, except Christmas Day.
Access to public transport: 2 minute walk from Ballarat Railway
Station. Trains and buses from Melbourne and Geelong.

Sovereign Hill and Blood on the Southern Cross

Description: Strike gold at Sovereign Hill. By day, experience the
gold fever that gripped Australia in the 1850s brought to life in our
outdoor living museum.
By night, see ‘Blood on the Southern Cross’, a spectacular sound
and light show, and stay on-site at Comfort Inn Sovereign Hill.
Type of operation: Outdoor museum.
Location: 1 hour 30 minutes drive from Melbourne via Western Fwy.
Opening times: Museum: 10am-5pm daily (except Christmas Day).
‘Blood on the Southern Cross’ show: Nightly, (bookings essential).
Access to public transport: Local coach service, train to Melb.
Awards: Winner 2004, 2005 and 2007 Victorian Tourism Awards.
Creswick Woollen Mills is the home of luxurious, natural fibre
products designed in Australia to suit Australian conditions.
Founded in 1947 by Polish migrant, Paul Ryzowy, the Mills is now the
only coloured woollen spinning mill of its type in Australia. Some
of the luxurious products manufactured at the mills include Alpaca
throws, blankets and accessories woven into sophisticated modern
designs. Your itinerary may include a coffee at the café, a Machinery
Tour or meeting and feeding the Alpacas. Discover local artisans at
the Ryzowy Gallery and take home an Australian Alpaca throw made
at the Mills.
