DEFENDING INNOCENT LIVES WITHOUT GOING BROKE.
THE INDEPENDENT COUNTERTERRORIST GUN GUIDE July 2011
“Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the
peoples' liberty's teeth.”
George Washington
The one thing truly great about America is our citizens‟ natural right to arm and defend
himself or herself against threats. This is not to say that we do not possess the best military and
law enforcement community in the world, just that economics and logistics prevent the best from
becoming the earliest. That is, when danger threatens, the average citizen will be responsible for
his or her own safety and survival and that of their community. Since 2007, this has represented
the very essence of The Independent Counterterrorist – taking national security within one‟s
own hands for the benefit of both family and country.
Since 2007, the ICT program has had „participants‟ from nearly every nation on the
planet and downloads of various modules has soared into the thousands. Yet, if these modules
can save merely one human life, then the world remains a better place in which to live. For we
are all citizens of the planet – black or white, European or Asian, male or female, Muslim,
Christian, or Jew. It remains our actions that determine our worth and action is what The
Independent Counterterrorist is all about. If we do not stop terrorism within its tracks, then who
will?
Therefore, the lessons of this module are quite brief:
1. Guard dogs do not always bite;
2. Security systems do not always work;
3. Law enforcement personnel do not always arrive;
4. Terrorists do not always go away.
To protect yourself against threats requires you to arm yourself and here within the United
States, this means purchasing firearms and training with them unceasingly.
However, gun ownership does not have to break the bank. In fact, all of the firearms
within this module were purchased for less than $800 each, several for less than $400.
Ammunition can be purchased for less than $30 per 100 rounds for the rifles and less than $20
for the shotgun and pistol ammunition.
What this module will not do, however, is recommend any firearm purchase. Those
firearms illustrated herein are merely examples of what is available for the consumer to
purchase. It remains your responsibility to determine your needs, research your options, and train
yourself to do blindfolded what most others could not do within their dreams. Life is serious
business and survival often deadly. It is not a game and you cannot be restored to life through the
simple depression of a reset button.
Pistols
A pistol serves two fundamental defense purposes. It fits neatly within a concealed
holster, and it blows holes through bad people. If you are sincere about surviving an encounter
with a raving lunatic or a fanatical Islamic jihadist, then you want to blow BIG holes through
your attacker. Why? Because the bigger the hole, the more likely your adversary will drop with
the minimum of hits. For this reason, the .45 ACP round reigns supreme. Designed in the early
20 th century when .38 revolvers did little to stop Islamic fanatics in the Philippines (the Moros),
the .45 has had over a century‟s worth of experience to prove its value. When smaller rounds
such as the 9mm are taunted under various “magic” bullets, only the .45 bears enough force to
stop attackers even if hollow points fail to expand.
Figure 1. Taurus OSS. R.J. the MPA possesses
Godlewski's Carry Gun of Choice. 30-round magazines.
Either option
provides plenty of firepower while shopping, traveling,
or just visiting the kids during holidays. Of course, the
MPA requires a shoulder harness, but the Taurus
conceals
Two effective options are the Taurus 24/7 OSS (for
carry) and the
Masterpiece Arm‟s
MPA-10T Defender.
The Taurus can carry
12+1 rounds while
nicely inside of the waistband and is easily covered
with a simple tee-shirt on those hot summer days.
Another option for a fine “desk gun” is the
Draco pistol, a Romanian import variant of the AK-
47. A bit long for a carry weapon, the 7.62 x 39mm
round (carried normally in 30-round clips) firearm
does offer a bit of a “intimidator” mentality. Any
firearm capable of launching meter-long flames
definitely catches the eyes of the bad guys. ;o) And
for less than $400, it cannot be beat. My version feels
extremely comfortable with the Israeli-manufactured
three-point tactical sling. It remains light, tight to the
body, and offers a range of ammunition choices from full metal jacket to frangible to hollow
Dozens of low-cost ammunition choices ordered directly from the privacy of your home.
Shotguns
When handguns are not accessible, nothing beats a trustworthy .12 gauge shotgun,
especially the oft-maligned pump with its distinctive sound when chambering a round. Semi-auto
shotguns have their benefits, but nothing terrifies an intruder more than the sound of buckshot
being chambered in the darkness of a strange house. The beauty of shotguns, however, rests with
their ability to handle different ammunition. Buckshot, sabot rounds, crankcase-busting slugs,
rubber bullets, breacher rounds, tear gas, etc. are all available for .12 gauge shotguns adding to a
defender‟s ability to protect his or her home.
Two unique options for the aspiring Independent Counterterrorist are Mossberg‟s Model
500 JIC (“Just in Case”) II TALO ® , a pistol gripped version of their economical line of shotguns
in a neat, takedown version. The nylon case can be strapped to a range of backpacks and other
camping gear while the shotgun itself can be assembled in under than a minute for the dutifully
practiced (I‟ve done it, so anyone can). The second option is Remington‟s Model 887 Nitro
Mag ® Tactical shotgun based upon their world-famous Model 870 but with a special armortough
coating. Picatinny rails allow for the mounting of reflex sights, lasers, optics, etc. A wellequipped
package provides for a light, low-cost, and extremely powerful home defense unit.
Rifles
Rifles are traditionally long-range weapons (greater than, say, 600 meters), but several
options exist for the cost-conscious Independent Counterterrorist aspirant. Many low-cost AKM
rifles exist on the market for less than $600, many available for $400-$500. Slightly higher
prices exist for folding stock AKMS models. The beauty of Kalashnikovs, however, remains
their virtual indestructibility. Unlike American AR-15 rifles, AK-47 variants do not require as
much pampering and are simpler to use. Furthermore, the 7.62 x 39mm cartridge places a larger
bullet downrange and larger bullets tend to stop attackers faster. Ranges are limited to less than
600 meters but, hey, who is necessarily worried about an attacker at such a distance?
For light-framed shooters, Kalashnikov rifles come in a 5.45 x 39mm variant called the
AK-74, several of which can be purchased for around $500 or less. These rifles offer the
durability of the AK with a cartridge presenting less cost and weight.
This document is not meant to offer any suggestions or recommendations. Its intent is
merely to show some options available for the private citizen. Individual research and training is
of paramount importance. Of course, that is what the whole Independent Counterterrorist
training program is all about. You seeking out training and resources on your own. Nobody else
will be there to answer all your questions…
Be safe…
as pistols. Please consult your local laws and regulations for clarification.
