SCOLA Festival of Youth Art A number of KS4 and 5 students have been given the opportunity to exhibit their work at the SCOLA festival of Youth Art exhibition at Sutton library. This includes GCSE Art and GCSE and A Level Photography work. Charlotte Wassey has received a commendation for her photo below. The exhibition takes place between Tuesday 9 th & Thursday 18 th February during normal library hours. You are all invited to view the excellent work produced by our students. Fiona Richards Schools recognised for community cohesion – 19 January 2010 SSAT press release 14 specialist schools and academies have been recognised for their outstanding work promoting community cohesion at a national ceremony. The schools from across the country have all achieved the Cultural Diversity Quality Standard (CDQS) which was developed by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) to promote cultural diversity, race equality and opportunities for achievements for all students. The celebration, organised by the SSAT, took place on 18 January 2010 in London at the offices of Deloitte, the professional services organisation, who sponsored the event. Ted Cantle, Chair of the Community Cohesion Institute, who coined the term 'community cohesion', was the keynote speaker. He said: 'The schools who have been successful in achieving the Cultural Diversity Quality Standard are beacons for other schools who have not embraced the community cohesion agenda as readily - they can inspire others and show them that it is possible to achieve fantastic things, whatever the challenges.' The new school Crèche opens at the Year 8 Parents Evening Thank you to everyone for this…. Superb atmosphere throughout the evening with terrific feedback from parents and students. Our first Crèche clearly was a real success with parents raving about yet another positive initiative from CBSC. Well done Tracey, Suzi, Sheena and Carla for helping to make this a winner. The next Crèche will be at the Year 10 Parents Evening on Thursday 25 th February. Computers and internet for learning Home Access gives low-income families the chance to choose from computer and internet packages that are: • designed to support learning • fitted with safety features • backed up with service and support. Home Access Grants Home Access Grants are available for low-income families in receipt of certain benefits and support. The programme is aimed at those who need it most. Grants are limited and are available on a first-come first-served basis. No catches The Home Access Grant is yours and does not need to be paid back. The package is government backed and stays yours, even when your child finishes school. At the end of the 12 months you can decide if you want to keep the internet – you won’t be locked into anything that you don’t want or can’t afford.
