Schools recognised for community cohesion – 19 January 2010 SSAT press release
14 specialist schools and academies have been recognised for their outstanding work promoting
community cohesion at a national ceremony.
The schools from across the country have all achieved the Cultural Diversity Quality Standard
(CDQS) which was developed by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) to promote
cultural diversity, race equality and opportunities for achievements for all students.
The celebration, organised by the SSAT, took place on 18 January 2010 in London at the offices of
Deloitte, the professional services organisation, who sponsored the event.
Ted Cantle, Chair of the Community Cohesion Institute, who coined the term 'community cohesion',
was the keynote speaker.
He said:
'The schools who have been successful in achieving the Cultural Diversity Quality Standard are
beacons for other schools who have not embraced the community cohesion agenda as readily -
they can inspire others and show them that it is possible to achieve fantastic things, whatever the
challenges.'
