The next youth group night will be Sunday, January 27th and the topic will be “The New You!” First Holy Communion Important Dates For students in their 2nd year of Communion Preparation: Retreats: 2nd Grader Retreat on Saturday, January 19th from 10:00 a.m.—2:00 p.m. 3-5th Graders Retreat on Saturday, February 2nd from 10:00 a.m.—2:00 p.m. (Optional Commemorative Chalice Painting is at 9:00 a.m. before the retreat begins. Please submit $15 payment for chalices before the retreat day). Mandatory Parent Meeting: Thursday, February 28th at 6:00 p.m. First Reconciliation: Tuesday, March 12th at 5:30 p.m. There will be a short reconciliation service followed by individual confessions. New Bible Study on Exodus! We have begun a Bible Study Series on the book of Exodus! The study is taking place on Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m. in the Our Lady of the Angels Classroom. Study binders are available at the parish Gift Shop. No need to sign up. Just come and bring a Catholic Bible. We hope to see you there! Bible Study on the Gospel of John The Bible study of the Gospel of John has resumed. These classes are on-going training for all of our teachers and aides. The topic for the night will be “The Mass and the Eucharist.”

This is a place where teens can grow in their faith in Christ & love of the Catholic Church, all while having fun with other teens. Our Goal is to grow in discipleship, while making friends, and having fun! HS Youth Group December 2012 • 1/27—Super Ciborium • 2/10—Mustache and Mullets Valentine’s Dance • 2/17—Relative to What? • 2/24—Service Project SOCIAL JUSTICE OPPORTUNITIES Feb 19-Mar 29—Living Stations of the Cross: beginning Tuesday 2/19 we will have rehearsals for the teen’s Living Stations of the Cross to be performed on Good Friday. From 6:30p-8p we will make costumes, prepare reflections, choose music, and practice our performance so that by Good Friday we can lead the parish in prayer during the living stations. We need teen actors, adult leaders who can sew and teach teens to sew, donations of fabric and props, and adult help with sound and logistics. To register to volunteer please email dhall@sfahdnv.org with your name, phone number, and the name of the event for which you wish to volunteer. Stop and Think. Have you ever stopped to think about reparation? When I was younger I used to enjoy taking apart things. I took apart a TV, a VCD, a radio, and several other electronics just to see what the insides looked like. The problem was when I tried to put them back together things didn't always fit back they way they were supposed to and the VCR was never the same again. I was not an expert at electronic reparation. Usually when things break and we know we can’t fix them ourselves we call the professional to come in and fix them, but what do we do when it is our heart and soul that is broken? There might be times in our lives when we are heartbroken and it seems that no one can fix our brokenness, there are also times when our soul is so stained with sin that it seems beyond reparation. Who do we call in this situation? This week’s readings help shed some light on how God is an expert at repairing our brokenness. The first reading from Isaiah shows us how when Israel turned to God they went from being called “forsaken” and “desolate” to God’s “delight” and God’s “espoused”. Then in our Gospel reading Jesus performs his first public miracle at a wedding in Cana. In the miracle he turns water into wine. Wine in scripture is a symbol of joy, and at this particular wedding the wine (or joy) had run out. We are very familiar with what happens next, but I want to focus on the water that was transformed into wine. The scripture tells us there were 6 water jars that were used for ceremonial washing. Each member at the wedding feast would first clean the dirt off their feet and hands in these pots. This means that this was the dirtiest and most disgusting water you can imagine. Jesus takes this rejected, dirty water and transforms it into the best wine. This show us that when we are without joy, heart and soul broken it doesn’t matter how filthy in sin we are or how rejected we feel Jesus can transform us and fill us to the brim with joy. If you are feeling broken, take this time to run to Jesus in adoration or reconciliation and receive the joy he desires to give you.
