Tomorrow calling
The future of office design is here – it’s lean, green and reflects an egalitarian
philosophy where views, natural light and open space are shared by all

In touch with your world
Open-plan, sustainable and with an accent on high-tech, virtual communications, the offices
for M Moser Beijing ensure easy connections across the premises and around the globe
with an emphasis on natural
materials, a slab of marble forms
the reception counter at the
offices of M Moser in Beijing.
A meet-and-greet table is in
recycled wood and the floors
are bamboo.
Below:Along with contemporary
meeting rooms, one space has a
traditional Chinese aesthetic to
help local clients feel at home.
In some areas, acoustic panels
feature in their natural state, but
glass and wood predominate.
When a company is renowned for delivering
modern client-focused workplace environments
throughout Asia, it makes good business sense that
its new offices will be a standard-bearer for the way
forward in commercial interior design.
Every M Moser office around the world is defined
by a collaborative and integrated approach to work,
says founder and chairman Moira Moser.
“Each time we add a new location or relocate
or redesign an existing one, it is an opportunity to
re-imagine how our workspaces can support that
approach – to push the boundaries a little further in
collaborative design and technology.
“While we’ve been in Beijing since 1997, our
recently relocated and redesigned office is also
a snapshot of how we’re evolving. This fit-out is
part of a process implemented in Guangzhou,
Shenzhen, Shanghai and most recently in Chengdu.
“The new environment is optimised to support
the activities of designers, architects, engineers
and planners – both working as part of integrated
project teams and also contributing their expertise
to other M Moser offices worldwide.”
In design terms, this translates into a virtually
barrier-free office, says director, head of Beijing
office, Doris Wong.
“The offices are in a new building, and are mainly
open-plan, with fluid, intuitive circulation through
the spaces. Digital whiteboards, touchscreens and
video conferencing technologies are integrated into
spaces, creating virtual project rooms that enable
the company’s professionals and clients anywhere
on the globe to interact in real time.”
Incorporating these facilities into the walls and
ceiling planes of meeting rooms – for example, the
glass walls double as white boards – helps deliver
a visually uncluttered aesthetic. There are three
formal meeting rooms, two quiet rooms and five
open meeting spaces with technology at the ready.
The balance of the 900m 2 premises is taken up
with casual breakout spaces, 90 workstations in
open-plan layout, a library and a café.
The new Beijing office has achieved LEED Gold
certification, a reflection of the company’s global
commitment to sustainability, says Moira Moser.
“We’ve approached each new or redesigned
location as a opportunity to exercise our sustainable
design muscles. What we learn about making
our own offices extremely functional and very
green, while staying within a budget, can definitely
be applied to the projects we do for our clients.”
