CHARLES MUNKA
At it's core, Charles Munka's
work is heavily involved with
the mark-making act. His highly
worked surfaces reveal the
significance of process, while
also opening up a discourse
between the marks on the
canvas, the artist's world and
the tradition of art history.
Munka is interested in exploring
the very essence of visual
communication, and in investigating
the physicality and
tactility of the materials at his
disposal as an artist - be they
paint, charcoal or collage -
touches upon the idea of
mark-making as something
fundamental to the human
experience.
Participating in both solo and
group exhibitions in Hong Kong
and Los Angeles, along with
collaborations in Tokyo, Paris,
San Francisco and Shanghai,
the wide-ranging audience
exposed successfully to his
work is testament to the translatability
and transformative
powers of his practise, it's
engagement with the tradition
of art history and it's relevance
to pop culture today.
