<strong>Year</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Priest</strong>. He appeared<br />

• Fa<strong>the</strong>r Michael L. Yaksick, S’94, has<br />

August 27. He also will provide sacramental<br />
assistance to <strong>the</strong> Catholic students and staff<br />
at Robert Morris University, in addition to his<br />
responsibilities as pastor <strong>of</strong> Saint Blaise Parish,<br />
Midland.<br />
• Fa<strong>the</strong>r John M. Bachkay, S’83, has<br />
been named pastor <strong>of</strong> Saint Sylvester Parish,<br />
Brentwood, for a term <strong>of</strong> six years, effective<br />
July 1, 2009.<br />
• Fa<strong>the</strong>r Kevin F. McKnight, S’94, has<br />
been named parochial vicar <strong>of</strong> Saint<br />
Elizabeth <strong>of</strong> Hungary Parish, Pleasant Hills,<br />
effective July 1, 2009.<br />
• Fa<strong>the</strong>r Richard G. Terdine, C’61, S’65,<br />
has been named full-time chaplain to<br />
<strong>the</strong> Catholic patients and staff at UPMC<br />
Shadyside, effective July 1, 2009, with<br />
responsibility for sacramental and emergency<br />
pastoral care at Magee-Women’s Hospital,<br />
effective July 1, 2009. He will reside at <strong>the</strong><br />
Cardinal Dearden Center.<br />
• Fa<strong>the</strong>r James F. Murphy, C’66, S’70, has<br />
been named dean, pro tem, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Butler<br />
County Deaner, from June 9 to October 1,<br />
2009. He maintains his responsibilities as pastor<br />
<strong>of</strong> Saint Fidelis <strong>of</strong> Sigmaringen Parish, Lyndora/<br />
Meridian.<br />
Fa<strong>the</strong>r Philip Farrell, S’93, was named one<br />
<strong>of</strong> three regional vicars by Bishop Zubik.<br />

Fa<strong>the</strong>r Mat<strong>the</strong>w McClain, S’02, has<br />
been named Director <strong>of</strong> Vocations for<br />
<strong>the</strong> Diocese <strong>of</strong><br />
Pittsburgh by Bishop<br />
David Zubik. He had<br />
most recently served<br />
as pastor <strong>of</strong> Saint<br />
Peter’s, Slippery Rock,<br />
and Saint Anthony<br />
Church, Forestville,<br />
as well as director <strong>of</strong><br />
Campus Ministry at<br />
<strong>the</strong> Newman Center<br />
<strong>of</strong> Slippery Rock University.<br />
He began his new position in April.<br />
Citing Bishop Edward Burns, now Bishop<br />
<strong>of</strong> Juneau, Alaska, as vocation director<br />
for <strong>the</strong> diocese when he felt his call to<br />
priesthood, McClain said “I am excited<br />
about <strong>the</strong> appointment because I am<br />
excited about <strong>the</strong> priesthood and about<br />
<strong>the</strong> church in <strong>the</strong> Diocese <strong>of</strong> Pittsburgh.<br />
<strong>The</strong>re is a new excitement about living <strong>the</strong><br />
faith in our diocese.<br />
“Bishop Zubik has engaged people<br />
where <strong>the</strong>y are—in real life—and has<br />
encouraged us to see that our faith is<br />
powerful and relevant in today’s society,”<br />
McClain told Pittsburgh Catholic. “I am<br />
so excited to talk about <strong>the</strong> priesthood<br />
because I have seen firsthand what an<br />
awesome, humbling, meaningful and<br />
powerful life it can be.”<br />
Ordained only seven years ago,<br />
he said that “it will be helpful that my<br />
seminary experience was not too long<br />
ago.... I think that I can give some insight<br />
to men who are not sure what to expect.”<br />
