Having a Blast at Trudeaumania!
On Thursday September 20, 2007, Trudeau’s grade
nine students embarked on a day of friendly
competition at Green Acres. They were participating
in the annual Trudeaumania Grade Nine Spirit Day!
The morning started with loud bursts of excitement.
Bright colours rippled throughout the cafeteria as the
Niners donned their team colours. Using flags,
colourful hairsprays and facial pastels, students
displayed their team colours with pride!
Student Council President Kavinda Senanayake and
Vice-President Manny Koo kicked off the day with a
few words. A brief lesson on how to perform the
Trudeau cheer followed. Then we were off to
participate in various games that all had to do with
teamwork, cooperation, trust and a dash of team
rivalry. The mood was kept light and fun by the
countless cheer-offs, dance-offs and contests for the
team with the best “overall spirit”.
unanimous obstacle was the WALL. For those of you
who do not recall the WALL from your own Grade
Nine Trudeaumania day, well, I’ll refresh your
memory...Imagine an intricate structure, tall and
it could easily be a two storey building. Well…that
was the WALL!
OK, maybe it wasn’t quite that bad. More like a tenfoot
wooden wall. Still, it was scary to scale. With
help from your group members, you were boosted up the wall,
where someone already at the top of the wall pulled you up and
over. Your group would continue to do this until everyone was
up and over the wall. I personally will admit that I was
completely terrified. I mean, why on earth would I want a
bunch of kids I barely know hoisting me over a wall? (Thank
heavens I wasn’t the first or the last person to go over!) But let
me tell you something, when you got up there, it was definitely
the most liberating feeling ever! Not to mention, you now had
a newfound appreciation for the other members of your group!
At lunchtime, everyone headed back to the “meeting spot”. It
was a good time to hang out with friends, new and old. Lunch
was a big success! With pizza and games all in one, how could
