I hope this issue of Pippa’s Song finds you and yours
well. As many of you may know, our state has
recently experienced quite a turbulent time as
tornados touched down and wreaked havoc on
many communities. However, I am pleased to
report that many of our faculty, staff, and students,
in true ALC spirit, pitched in with relief efforts
during these trying times. More information about
how our campus has reached out to help those in
need can be seen on page 34.
The desire to be willing servants is one of the many characteristics we strive
to instill in each Alice Lloyd College student. The initiative which our
students and graduates take to better themselves and others continually
reaffirms my faith in our institution. I know the stories contained within
these pages, from the accomplishments of our alumni George Nichols and
Reva Duff Tackett to the adventures of current ALC student and JBS alumnus
Kestin Howard, will give you a wonderful sampling of what can be
accomplished with hard work, dedication, and the drive to succeed.
As you may have noticed from our front cover, the Caney Creek Community
Center (made up of both Alice Lloyd College and The June Buchanan School)
is celebrating its 95 th year of service to the people of the Appalachian
mountains. The quote from Robert Browning which opened this letter is
indicative of our faith that with a vision and a purpose, our students can
achieve endless possibilities. However, our purpose here could not be carried
out without the continued support of people such as yourself. As you peruse
the pages of this Annual Report issue of Pippa’s Song, you will see that many
others share your dedication to continuing Alice Lloyd and June Buchanan’s
great dream. Thank you so much for all you continue to do for the students
on Caney Creek!
May God richly bless you and yours,
In this Issue
