In Memoriam<br />
Clyde Burton Burchett (Class of 1940) of Prestonsburg,<br />
Kentucky, passed away December 3, 2011. Clyde and his family<br />
operated “Ye Olde Jewelry Shop” in Prestonsburg for 35 years. He<br />
is survived by his wife: Eileen Wolf Burchett; sons: Randall Clyde<br />
(Martha) Burchett, Dr. Thomas John (Cindra) Burchett and Dr.<br />
Blake Robert (Rebecca) Burchett; siblings: Ray (Linda) Burchett,<br />
Gayle (Rhonda) Burchett, Jack Burchett, Virginia Wallace, and<br />
Tommie Richardson; eight grandchildren, two greatgrandchildren.<br />
Gardner Caudill (Class of 1947) of South Lyon, Michigan, passed<br />
away October 1, 2011. Gardner worked in purchasing for the<br />
Burroughs Company (now UNISYS) for many years. He is<br />
survived by his wife: Gloria Kingsley-Caudill; sons: Dale (Lisa)<br />
Caudill and Larry (Cheryl) Caudill; siblings: Oliver, Lila, Helen,<br />
Delmar and Devo; and a host of grandchildren.<br />
Kristin Everage Clutts (Class of 2006) of Bulan, Kentucky, passed<br />
away December 20, 2011. Kristin was well-known as a talented<br />
singer and performer. At one time, she was a member of the<br />
Kentucky Opry and performed frequently at the Mountain Arts<br />
Center in Prestonsburg. Kristin is survived by her husband: John<br />
Clutts; father and step-mother: Archie Wayne and Deb Everage;<br />
children: Gavin Clutts, Bradyn Clutts, and Waylon Clutts; stepbrother:<br />
Justin Keene; step-sister: Cheyenne Bingham; maternal<br />
grandmother: Evalee Everage; and paternal grandfather: Robert<br />
Thacker.<br />
Ella Venus Griffith (Class of 1939) of McArthur, Ohio, passed<br />
away December 3, 2011. Ella wrote many articles for state and<br />
national publications, including a book entitled, Precious<br />
Memories. She is survived by her son: Rev. Jerry R. Griffith Jr.;<br />
daughter: Brenda (Jim) Henderson; and a host of grandchildren<br />
and great-grandchildren.<br />
Earl R. Holbrook of White Oak, Kentucky, passed away March 2,<br />
2012. Earl served as a beloved educator in Morgan County for 32<br />
years. In addition, he ran a family farm, operated a grocery store,<br />
and owned and operated the Holbrook Mobile Home Park for 30<br />
years. Earl is survived by his wife: Eleanor Patrick Holbrook;<br />
three children: Earletta Jann (Michael) Stamper (ALC Class of<br />
1977), Gregory Lynn Holbrook and Earl Emanuel (Chernell)<br />
Holbrook; siblings: Irene Click, Charlene Arnett and Bertrum<br />
Holbrook; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.<br />
Ruby Maggard (Class of 1949) of Mallie, Kentucky, passed away<br />
March 11, 2012. Ruby is survived by her sons: Oliver (Evelena)<br />
Maggard, Wade (Ettie) Maggard and Nathan Maggard; daughters:<br />
Sharon (David) White and Atha Mae Maggard; and a host of<br />
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.<br />
Terri Lynn Moore (Class of 1989) of Jeff, Kentucky, passed away<br />
March 15, 2012. Terri was a school teacher at Big Creek<br />
Elementary in Perry County. She is survived by her mother: Clara<br />
Evelyn Moore; children: Zack Brewer and Madison Brewer;<br />
brothers: Billy Moore and Randy Moore; sister: Ruie Hays; and a<br />
host of nieces and nephews.<br />
Michael Lee Mullins passed away February 19, 2012. Mike<br />
began the Appalachian Oral History project which is housed at<br />
Alice Lloyd College. His work as the director at the Hindman<br />
Settlement School for 34 years will continue to impact lives in the<br />
mountains for generations to come. “It’s one thing to know about<br />
education and to understand it. But to put legs on it and to put it into<br />
motion takes a special kind of person,” said Martha Layne Collins,<br />
former Kentucky governor and friend of Mullins. Mike is<br />
survived by his wife: Frieda; his son Nathan; daughters Brenda<br />
and Cassie; very special “adopted” son Ronald J. Costanzo; and 5<br />
grandchildren: Riley, Lily, Bailey, Zach, and Sebastian. He is also<br />
survived by his mother Mildred; sisters Mary Jenkins and Diane<br />
Adams; and brothers Gary and Terry.<br />
Douglas Meade Sanders (Class of 1967) of Weeksbury, Kentucky,<br />
passed away November 17, 2011. Douglas is survived by her<br />
husband: Ernest Sanders; daughters: Constance (Wes) Gearheart,<br />
Vivian Coker, and Kimberly (Tommy) Castle; siblings: Claude<br />
Meade, Gertrude Chateauvert and Betty Marshall; and a host of<br />
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.<br />
Robert Short (Class of 1954) of Pinetop, Kentucky, passed away<br />
November 27, 2011. Robert was a well-known and respected car<br />
dealer in Knott County for many years. Robert is survived by his<br />
wife: Nasreeda Vance Short; sons: Greg (Nadine) Short, Gordon<br />
(Angela) Short and Tim (Katrina) Short; brothers: Leon (Carrie)<br />
Short, Hiram (Diane) Short, Kermit (Clovia) Short, Darrell<br />
(Barb) Short and Oakie D. Short; sisters: Anna (Kell) Hall, Ida<br />
Mae Slone and Loretta Estep; and a host of grandchildren and<br />
great-grandchildren.<br />
Anna Jean Sparkman (Class of 1967) of Pippa Passes, Kentucky,<br />
passed away December 26, 2011. Anna Jean is survived by her<br />
son: James Patrick Sparkman; brothers: Jimmy Sparkman and<br />
Joey Sparkman; sisters: Lou Fern Sparkman, Donna Sue<br />
Sparkman, Lema Darlene “Inez” Sparkman and Jacqueline<br />
Sparkman; and a host of nieces and nephews.<br />
Robert D. Sparkman of Pippa Passes, Kentucky, passed away<br />
December 28, 2011. Robert is survived by his wife: Olive<br />
Sparkman; son: Eric Shaun (Crystal) Sparkman; daughters:<br />
Missy (Steve) Mullins and Crissy (Mike) Slone; brothers: Jimmy<br />
Sparkman and Joey Sparkman; sisters: Lou Fern Sparkman,<br />
Donna Sue Sparkman, Lema Darlene “Inez” Sparkman and<br />
Jacqueline Sparkman; four grandchildren and a host of nieces<br />
