COLTS NOTES
NO FRIENDLY FIRE
The Colts have committed the third-fewest turnovers and the least
amount of penalties in the NFL this season. In his press conference
on Monday (Oct. 28), Head Coach Chuck Pagano stated the importance
of both of those areas:
“We talk all the time, you don’t win games in the National Football
League, you lose them,” said Pagano. “You just try to avoid the
friendly fire and not shoot yourself in the foot, so to speak. If we can
continue to take care of the little things, take care of the cents, as we
talk, the dollars will come. We’ll make sure that we keep harping on
the little things.”
FINISHING STRONG
Through 10 games, the Colts have only allowed 39 points in the
fourth quarter, which ranks second in the NFL this season. It also
ranks as the 11th-least amount of fourth-quarter points allowed
through the first 10 games in franchise history. The Colts did not allow
any fourth-quarter points in four straight games from Weeks 2-5,
which was the longest streak for the team since at least 1999.
COMING OUT OF THE BYE WEEK
The Colts have posted a 11-3 record in games immediately following
the bye week since 2000. From 2005-2010, the Colts won the
game following the bye week six consecutive times. This year
marked the fourth time the Colts have played the Texans following
the bye week. Indianapolis has won each of the four matchups,
scoring 30 points or more in three of the games.
GOING THE DISTANCE
For the first time in his 18-year NFL career, kicker Adam Vinatieri
made two 50-plus-yard field goals in a single game at San Diego
(10/14) in Week 6, hitting from 50 and 51 yards out.
This marked the third time in Colts history that a kicker has made
two 50-yard field goals in a game. Dean Biasucci accomplished the
feat on 9/25/88 and Mike Vanderjagt did so on 11/24/02.
Vinatieri also became the second player this season to kick a pair of
50-yarders in a game, with Dallas Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey splitting
the uprights on two 50-yard field goals against Kansas City on 9/15/13.
WELCOME TO THE TEAM
The Colts acquired running back Trent Richardson in a trade with the
Cleveland Browns on Thursday, Sept. 19. In Richardson’s first rushing
attempt as a member of the Colts, he ran for a touchdown on a
one-yard run at San Francisco (9/22). With the touchdown,
Richardson became the first player to score on his first rushing
attempt in his Colts debut since Gordon Brown did so on October
4, 1987. He also scored in his second game with the Colts on a
one-yard run in the second quarter at Jacksonville (9/29).
COUNT ME IN
Safety Antoine Bethea currently ranks first among active NFL
safeties with 90 consecutive games started. Before being placed on
Injured Reserve on 10/22/13, wide receiver Reggie Wayne led all
active wide receivers and ranked second among all active players in
consecutive games played (189).
INSIDE THE 20
In Week 7 vs. Denver, punter Pat McAfee pinned six punts inside the
20-yard line, setting a new single-game franchise record. The previous
record of five was held by David Lee (12/4/76) and Rohn Stark
(11/11/90). McAfee has now pinned 105 punts inside the 20-yard line
for his career, which ranks third in Colts history since 1976.
NEVER OUT
The Indianapolis Colts overcame an 18-point second-half deficit to
defeat the Houston Texans 27-24 on Sunday Night Football at Reliant
Stadium. Andrew Luck connected with T.Y. Hilton for three
touchdowns on three consecutive drives in the second half to give
the Colts the victory. The comeback tied the sixth-largest in franchise
history, having last overcome the same margin against Green
Bay on Oct. 7, 2012.
