“The Augusta Regional Free Clinic and The Augusta Regional Dental Clinic
have a strong affiliation. Both are health safety net providers and share
many resources, like some staff, volunteers and a facility. However, they are
separate legal entities, each with its own 501(c) (3) charitable status.”
Answer continued from left page
A: The Augusta Regional Free Clinic (ARFC)
provides medical care and prescriptions
to uninsured adults aged 18–64, who
reside in Augusta County, Staunton or
Waynesboro and meet income guidelines
at 200% of Federal poverty level ($44,100
for a family of four). This care for 1,500
patients, resulting in about 6,000 visits
annually, is provided free of charge by a
staff Nurse Practitioner or by one of the
approximately 50 volunteer providers
who generously donate their services.
The providers are supported in this effort
by four part-time staff nurses and 40
wonderful volunteer nurses. Many more
dedicated community volunteers assist in
the administration of services. These 1,500
patients receive an estimated 20,000
prescriptions, representing a retail value of
over $2 million, from the ARFC pharmacy.
A: The Augusta Regional Dental Clinic
(ARDC) is structured on a somewhat
different model in order to extend its
services to as many people as possible.
Established in 2006, it serves both eligible
children and adults who live in Augusta
County, Staunton or Waynesboro. The
adult patients are primarily dentally
uninsured, income-eligible residents
(with household income of $40,000 or
less) or needy senior citizens, for whom
Medicare provides no routine dental
coverage. Children (and some adults)
who qualify for the “Virginia Smiles for
Children” program, including Medicaid,
FAMIS and FAMIS Plus recipients, are
also eligible for ARDC services.
