<strong>Long</strong> <strong>Island</strong> Unitarian Universalist Fund: $236,500<br />

The LIUU Fund is a staffed field-of-interest fund in the <strong>Long</strong> <strong>Island</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> that promotes<br />

progressive social change. The fund was established by the Unitarian Universalist Veatch Program at Shelter Rock.<br />

Grants are made in response to competitive proposals received from <strong>Long</strong> <strong>Island</strong> nonprofit organizations.<br />

The proposals are reviewed by LICF staff and presented to an advisory committee, composed of members drawn from<br />

UU congregations across <strong>Long</strong> <strong>Island</strong> and appointed by The New York <strong>Community</strong> Trust, which approves grants<br />

recommended for funding.<br />

ERASE Racism $18,000<br />

To support ongoing work to undo institutional racism through a fair<br />

housing equity campaign, to implement a film project that will assist<br />

public schools campaign for racial equity, and to determine the<br />

feasibility of a racial equity in health campaign.<br />

Five Towns <strong>Community</strong> Center $15,000<br />

To support a leadership training program designed to empower<br />

youth to become positive role models by serving and improving<br />

their communities.<br />

Gat e way Youth Outreach $20,000<br />

To support outreach and participation in a visioning project to<br />

revitalize the Elmont community.<br />

Herstory Writers Workshop $20,000<br />

To support a memoir-writing program for incarcerated women.<br />

<strong>Long</strong> <strong>Island</strong> Gay And Lesbian Youth (LIGALY) $15,000<br />

To establish a public policy and community organizing department<br />

to strengthen the political voice and power of <strong>Long</strong> <strong>Island</strong>’s gay,<br />

lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities.<br />

North Fork Spanish Apostolate $20,000<br />

To educate immigrants and provide an understanding of the health<br />

care system, how to access services, patients’ rights and information<br />

on preventive medicine and nutrition.<br />

Shinnecock Indian Nation Fund $30,000<br />

To complete documentation of genealogical records of these<br />

indigenous people as the Tribe continues its efforts to acquire<br />

federal recognition.<br />

Suffolk Coalition to Prevent Alcohol and<br />

Drug Dependencies $20,000<br />

To support an initiative to implement restitution and reconciliatian<br />

practices in the juvenile justice and criminal justice systems.<br />

The New York Immigration Coalition $20,000<br />

To support a public awareness campaign on immigrant rights<br />

to foster open and honest public discussion.<br />

Uniondale Roosevelt Weed and Seed $20,000<br />

To support an asset development project to improve the economic<br />

well-being of low- and moderate-income individuals and families<br />

in Uniondale and Roosevelt by increasing their access to tax<br />

credits and helping them to acquire greater financial literacy.<br />

National Committee of Grandparents<br />

for Children’s Rights $18,500<br />

To train caregivers on legislative advocacy, managing finances,<br />

health care and health care insurance, housing, transportation,<br />

children with special needs, education, and to offer them respite<br />

care and emotional support.<br />
