Announcements
There will be no school for students on Friday, February 15 and Monday, February 18.
Extended Care will be open on Friday, but will be closed on Monday in observance of
President’s Day. If you wish for your child to attend
extended care on Friday, please contact Mrs. Glenda
Reid at 615-577-1198.
Elementary students have enjoyed participating in
intramural basketball on Saturdays. Students beginning
in 1 st grade are encouraged to play intramurals which
include flag football, basketball and soccer. This is a
wonderful way for students to learn team work while
building friendships with fellow classmates.
During the month of February our families are asked to complete the re-enrollment
process for the 2013-14 school year. The deadline for re-enrollment is March 1, 2013.
Please feel free to call the Admissions Office at 615-577-1216 if you have any questions.
Please remember the family of former DCA longtime and
beloved custodian Hawkins Moss. Hawkins passed away
Thursday, February 7 at the age of 77. Arrangements are
incomplete at this time but the service will be at Bond
Memorial Funeral Home in Mt. Juliet with the funeral
tentatively set for Monday.
Next week will be Spiritual Emphasis Week for students in
Middle and High school. Chapel will be held daily. This
year’s theme will be “From the Grave to Grace”. Students
will hear how experiencing failures from self, family and
community can help us to understand and accept God’s grace and in return, show that
same grace to others. Please feel free to join the DCA family for our chapel services
during this week.
In Reading class, second grade students chose a
biography to read and then completed a project
about that person. They wrote a report in class
and created bottle biographies to present to the
class about the person they read about. They
used two-liter bottles, Styrofoam heads, and a
variety of other craft materials to make their
projects.
DCA will be hosting a Kindergarten Preview
Night for parents of current Pre-Kindergarten students from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on
Monday, February 11. The students will begin the night with a performance for parents
in the Lecture Hall followed by a pizza dinner. This is an excellent opportunity for
parents to discover what our Kindergarten curriculum has to offer. Teachers and
administrators will also be available for tours and questions.
The second annual lunchtime college fair was
held on Friday, February 8. There were over
sixteen local colleges represented. This gave
parents and students the opportunity to meet
with various college representatives in one day.
A Financial Aid representative was also available
to answer questions. This was a wonderful
opportunity for parents and students to learn
about local universities without leaving the DCA
campus. We look forward to a similar event next
year.

This year’s Blood Drive sponsored by the High
School Student Council was a great success! There
were over 60 donors which resulted in 51 productive
units. We are very thankful to our DCA family, students, faculty and staff that made
this event possible.
Congratulations to Diya O’Brien, our student of the week for
February 11. Diya has been a student at DCA since the 6 th grade.
She has a 3.9 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society,
the Interact Club, Mu Alpha Theta and the Chemistry Club.
Congratulations to the Legacy Show Choir on winning 1st place
in the Small Mixed Division in the Diamond Classic in Albertville,
Alabama last weekend! There were seven choirs in DCA’s
division. One of those choirs won Belmont's competition last
year. DCA was also in the top six choirs over-all which meant
they were a finalist. There were 20 choirs in the competition. This
competition takes the top six choirs to perform again in the Finals competition. DCA
was the only small mixed division choir in the finals. The other five choirs all came from
the large mixed division. The other choirs had over 60 choir members! However, this
didn't keep our group from having an even better performance that evening! Legacy
was 5th Runner Up in the Finals competition and the scores from the same judges were
even higher the second time!
