The first and second advance
works contracts for DBO
bundle 1 are substantially
complete. Advance Works
Contract 3 (the upgrade of
Kilmovee/Urlaur GWS
including provision of a new
reservoir and rising main) is
progressing satisfactorily and
should be completed by the
end of October. Tenders for
Advance Works Contract 4
(work on Funshinnagh and
Glencorrib) were opened on
5 September and have been
forwarded to Clients’ Representative,
Ryan Hanley, for
a report and recommendation.

Brackloon Spaddagh GWS
water treatment plant is the
first of the 11 new plants to
be commissioned and is now
supplying treated water to
consumers. DBO contractor,
Earth Tech (Ireland) Ltd. has
submitted a commissioning
programme, indicating that
the remaining 10 treatment
plants and the existing
Belderrig GWS plant will be

operational by Christmas.
Bohola GWS treatment plant
is currently producing water
to meet the scheme’s
demand. The treated water
produced is of a high quality
and complies with the drinking
water regulations.

Leakage Control teams have
completed surveys of
Ballycroy, Bohola, Drummin
and Laughta group schemes

and are currently working on
Ballyglass/Carnacon,
Glencorrib and Killeen. The
teams have identified individual
consumers and sections
of distribution systems with
high UFW. It is vitally important
that once the surveys are
completed that GWS committees
take ownership of the
problem and become proactive
in maintaining UFW
below the 25% target.
Fahy GWS and neighbouring Drumindoo GWS have agreed to amalgamate. The DBO Steering Group has
recommended to the DoEHLG that this amalgamated scheme be upgraded as part of Mayo DBO bundle 1.
