Page 12 ISSUE 123 Friday 27th SEPTEMBER, 2015 MATTERS WORTHY OF RECALL CRY THE BELOVED COUNTRY with T G. MENDES With the swearing in of the most popular PNM Prime Minister, since Dr Eric Eustace Williams in 1956, however unpopular might have become the opponent he vanquished, and despite his reassurances of equity, integrity and fair play the following is worthy of recall. Since the ignominious hounding out of office of CJ Sat Sharma and the blatant, if unsuccessful, attempt to cow and intimidate both the Judiciary and DPP Geoffrey Henderson. It appeared obvious that Patrick Manning’s path to the constitutional dictatorship paved by Williams was once more open and beckoning. So convinced was that ex PM of his brilliant prospects that he built himself a palace - at state expense naturally. Further,he appropriated the President’s distinctive and identifying vehicle number plates. Having ignominiously replaced Sat Sharma with what he expected to be a grateful and malleable Ivor Archie as CJ, and with the Lest we forget… office of AG deliberately left vacant, he refused to confirm either a DPP or a CoP in their respective offices. Manning thus felt secure from either the judiciary or the forces of law and order. Thus, despite at once being transparent, predictable and incompetent, the Manning PNM from “elevation” in ‘02 utilised the politics of smoke, mirrors and mass distraction with great apparent success against any inconvenient development. Being of a cautious nature, however, Manning still established, at significant public expense, a personal Praetorian guard responsible only to himself under the guise of an intelligence gathering force never regularised as a legal entity and known by the acronym SAUTT. Penetrating his carefully constructed recipe for euphoria, however, was sounded the loudest and most jarring note and from the least expected source as well. In his public address to fellow jurists at the opening of those “new” sessions, hand picked CJ Ivor Archie in one fell swoop, not only rendered impassable Manning’s hitherto open road to constitutional dictatorship but exposed the Manning/Jeremie/ McNicolls conspiracy against ex CJ Sat Sharma for the hollow obscenity which was all it ever was. Thus has truth always emerged! Rowley could hardly have been expected to criticise that democratic obscenity via which, courtesy of the late ANR Robinson, Manning was “elevated” to the nation’s 5th PM and 4th to lead a PNM ruling dispensation in which Rowley was a Cabinet Minister. Of greater current concern, however, is the fact that despite Keith Rowley’s acrimonious subsequent confrontations with his PM over the corruption of Calder Hart and company, there is to my best knowledge no record from Manning’s critic in Parliament Dr Keith Rowley of any critical comment from him over the obscenity perpetrated against CJ Sat Sharma! While, therefore, their ineptitude, corruption and nepotism, despite significant performance, justified the Sunshine has learnt that Kallco has just dismissed some 300 workers and it is reported that SIS has also dismissed twice that figure. Our information is that Danny’s Enterprises is also on a similar cleansing exercise as all of them await the PNM gov’t’s audit of the billions of dollars in contracts which have been given to them these past five years and especially in the PPG’s defeat on 7/9/15, the above example of PM Rowley’s expedient exercise of moral outrage must be an issue of public concern on both sides of the ethno/ political divide It must not be ignored in the current euphoria. Since the PNM, like the leopard, has not since inception in 1956 been known to change either spots or political habits the electorate that voted PNM may now well be guided by the old Latin maxim “caveat emptor”- buyer beware! This warning will retain validity until and unless Dr Keith Christopher Rowley in his capacity as newly minted PM pre-empts any possible extradition against Jack Warner by preconditioning any such process by ensuring prior extradition out of the US of Calder Hart to answer to the local courts for his depredation of the local patrimony. Nor will that be enough to allay popular concerns. He must, on behalf of the PNM and as a matter of urgency, make public apology and financial compensation in restitution to ex CJ Sat Sharma for the injustice visited upon him by his PNM predecessor in power. PM Dr. KEITH ROWLEY CJ IVOR ARCHIE Of course, residual suspicion will be further diluted if he extended that process to indicting Patrick Manning as the instigator and architect of both Sharma’s obscene treatment and Calder Hart’s depredations! PATRICK MANNING Former CJ SAT SHARMA That however, would require the Leopard to change his spots and that and the face of the Lord this corrupt society is unlikely to ever behold. UNC CONTRACTORS START TO DISMISS WORKERS! - KallCo, SIS and Danny’s last three years. Similar fears are being held by other major UNC contractors like Motilal Ramhit & Sons, TN Ramnath and V&V Contractors. Even the Manager of the FCB Chaguanas Branch, Baldath Maharaj, has been an HDC contractor building several HDC houses especially in Central to the value of millions of dollars. Many of the UNC contractors had hoped to cash in before the elections for fear that they will not be paid by the PNM gov’t whom they all knew would have won the election whether it had ended at 6pm or 7pm or even 5pm. However many of them were not as lucky as Kallco whose GM Michael Arjoon received three cheques from EFCL on the stroke of noon on that last Friday before the election. Based on that rich payout Arvin Kalloo owner of Kallco is now hosting a birthday bash for his 3 year old son Arvan. After the birthday party no doubt the guests can then go to Kallco’s Coffee Beanery in Long Circular Mall or in Ariapita Avenue or even in Trincity Mall for a hot cup of coffee and they may even get a ride in one of his luxury cars.
