Page 26 ISSUE 125 Friday 25th SEPTEMBER, 2015 O’MEARA ROAD IN BAD CONDITION Motorists have been tired complaining about the deplorable condition of O’Meara Road, Arimaa main gateway to the NO FLOWERS BY REQUEST Borough. They have to navigate the large potholes, some at the side of the roadway, which can cause accidents. WASA had dug up the road for its pipe laying project and the contract was given to D’Abadie Discount Hardware- a subsidiary of Kallco to resurface the road. But nearly every week the damaged surface is filled with oil sand and gravel, which cause the roadway to sink deeper when heavy vehicles pass on the holes. Just recently there was a sinkhole, which caused motorists to drive on another portion of the road. No longer it was filled up, a few days later it was back to the same problem. Arima Mayor George Hadeed told Sunshine he was fed up making complaints to WASA over the past year. He said the Borough assists in patching up some of the smaller holes, but it is the duty of WASA to resurface the roads which they destroy. Photos by AZAD ALI

Several opposition MPs were at the Office of The President in St Ann’s for the ceremony. Kamla Persad-Bissessar was presented with her Instruments of Appointment to become T&T’s new Opposition Leader. And here she is wearing the same outfit she wore when she had the Parliament prorogued on Friday June 12, 2015 and declared election date for September 7, 2015. Three months later same outfit but different role. Democracy truly is a precious thing and the result of an election is an expression of the will of the people. All persons who are elected should take those responsibilities very seriously indeed and I congratulate the hundreds of thousands of you who exercised your right to vote and made this possible. Again, I take this opportunity to congratulate my opponent Dr. Keith Rowley on his victory. I wish him all the best for the sake of all our people.” “Again,” when did Mrs. Persad-Bissessar first send out congratulations to then PNM Political Leader and now Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley? Responding to questions from reporters following the ceremonial opening of the new law term at the Trinity Cathedral, Port of Spain, on September 16, 2015, Mrs. Persad-Bissessar said she did not recall having not congratulating Rowley in her concession speech. “I don’t recall (famous words in Government, now being used in Opposition) that I did not do that. That is what is being reported, nevertheless, one of you reported it and I did do so at some point further,” she said. “I congratulate all the members of the government and I wish them every success in their service to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.” And then in the next breath Persad-Bissessar blurts out to reporters that she intends to continue with a petition to have the election declared null and void would continue and would not be affected by the appointment of Opposition MPs set to take place tomorrow Wednesday. She made good on this promise last Friday, when Attorney-at-law Wayne Sturge led a team to the Hall of Justice to file a motion against the EBC to challenge its decision to extend the voting time from 6pm to 7pm. The UNC has been granted leave by the High Court to challenge the election results in six marginal seats around the country. .. Tunapuna, St Joseph, Toco/Sangre Grande, La Horquetta/Talparo, Moruga/Tableland and San Fernando West seats. Then the country saw squatters’ homes in south being demolished, flooding highlighted in south and central areas and the Opposition MPs coming out with rage and questioning why now and the new Government had not even been sworn in yet. Then there was the Chairman of the Siparia Regional Corporation, PM Dr. KEITH ROWLEY (SRC) Leo Doodnath who told protesting casual workers their contracts could not be renewed because of the ministry’s directive. Then Persad-Bissessar expressed disappointment in Housing Minister Marlene McDonald’s decision to halt the 100 homes-aweek until Christmas distribution policy, pending an evaluation and assessment of the process. Then her little pompek Roodal Moonilal is quoted as saying,”the UNC will return to government in less than five years.” Moonilal, in addressing supporters at the party’s Couva South Constituency office, he urged supporters to keep their UNC jerseys and “prepare to do battle.” What signal is this Opposition sending to the populace? Moonilal also says, “the UNC will be waiting for KAMLA PERSAD BISSESSAR Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and the Peoples National Movement (PNM) to fall, so that they can pick up the pieces and continue to develop Trinidad and Tobago.” Dr. Rowley’s call for unity in Parliament was shut down by Suruj Rambachan, who stated the UNC will give the PNM “thunder” in the House of Representatives. Persad-Bissessar says the “UNC has a very strong bench in the Opposition and will keep the PNM in check,” and she urged citizens to support her challenge of the election results as she wants to see justice served. Last Monday, Persad- Bissessar received her Instrument of Appointment for the post of Opposition Leader. Well Kamla, the people have spoken Kamla. Get over it! WHO IS THE “RAGING BULL” NOW? Two weeks into the swearing in of a new Government following this country’s General Elections, held on September 7, 2015, I can quote the infamous words of former Prime Minister Patrick Manning and relate it to Kamla Persad-Bissessar. I can say without conviction, “Mr. Speaker, I see hate, Mr. Speaker, I see bitterness, I see acrimony and Mr. Speaker, I see animosity and Mr. Speaker, I see a woman completely out of control and that problem is not a new problem. The minute you oppose my good friend she gets very, very angry and if you oppose her very strongly she becomes a raging bull.”
