CRAFT FAIR A Fall Craft Fair will be held Saturday, November 3 from 10 AM to 2 PM at Banks United Methodist Church located on Hwy 96 N in Wilton. The event will feature a Bake Sale, Hot Dogs and Soup for sell, hand made gifts and Christmas Crafts. BAZAAR/YARD SALE The Creedmoor United Methodist Women will sponsor their annual “Holiday Bazaar” on Saturday, November 3rd from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Building at Creedmoor United Methodist Church located at 214 Park Avenue in Creedmoor. There will be handmade crafts, gift baskets, and homemade baked goods for sale. Fresh baked biscuits (sausage and country ham), along with breakfast pastries, and more, will be available for break-fast. Lunch will include hot dogs with all the trimmings, homemade soups and cookies. Soup will be sold by the quart after lunch. In addition to the bazaar, there will be a huge Yard Sale with household items, clothes, furniture and much more. The yard sale will be held under the picnic shelter behind the church. RECYCLE AND COLLECTION DAY A Recycle and Collection Day will be held Saturday, November 3rd at Creedmoor Elementary School located at 305 E. Wilton Avenue in Creedmoor from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Metch Electronic Recyclers will be collecting all electronics, most anything with a plug or battery. Re-U-zit will be collecting clothing, coats, shoes, stuffed toys, books (all sorts), textiles etc. Operation Medicine Drop Sheriff’s Office will collect Medicines, ammunition, flares, etc. ACIM (Local Food Bank) will collect any food items, toiletries (deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpastes, shampoo, soap, etc. There is a desperate need for food items. Pro Shred will provide confidential document shredding. HORSE SHOW BENEFIT A “Jump For the Children” horse show, benefitting Duke Children’s Hospital, is scheduled for Tuesday - Sunday, Nov. 6th - 11th, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Gov. James B. Hunt, Jr. Horse Complex, 4601 Trinity Road in Raleigh. The Duke Children’s Hospital Grand Prix will be held Saturday, Nov. 10th, starting at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 per person,, children under 10 free. Box office opens at 6:30 p.m. Admission to the show is free except for Saturday night. Proceeds from the horse show benefit Duke Children’s Hospital in Durham. NEW SERVICE Vance-Granville Community College’s Small Business Center will offer a new service in which area residents can receive free legal advice from lawyers who have expertise in small business matters. The Small Business Center is partnering with the North Carolina Lawyers for Entrepreneurs Assistance Program (NC LEAP) to present “Ask a Small Business Lawyer,” a full morning of free 30- minute, one-on-one private appointments with attorneys, on Thursday, Nov. 15. Meetings will take place in the Student Learning and Success Center in Building 1 on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County. “The only requirements to take advantage of this opportunity are that you make an appointment and that you have a legitimate business issue to discuss with the lawyer,” said Tanya Weary, director of the VGCC Small Business Center. WINE TASTING The Board of Directors of the Granville County Community Foundation is hosting a wine tasting on Friday, November 16, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stovall’s Gifts, located at 100 Main Street in Oxford. Proceeds from the event will go to the Granville County Community Foundation’s unrestricted endowment fund, which supports local nonprofit organizations by awarding annual grants. This is a great time, ahead of the holiday season, to get a handle on your finances. You’d be less likely to fall into a buying frenzy and find yourself in debt in January. If you could use a few ideas for more effective budgeting, you’re invited to attend the next series of “Get the Money Monkey Off Your Back!” series. Money Monkey will be offered on Thursdays, October 25 through November 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at ACIM, 634 Roxboro Road, Oxford. Who is this series for? Anyone of any income level who wants to take control of their spending so they can set priorities, pay their bills on time and save some money, too. <strong>One</strong> participant said about the new Money Habitude card sort, “It stopped me cold in my tracks and gave me the biggest reality check. It made me look at what I value most.” There is no sharing of personal financial information. However, participants will have the option of working during one session one-on-one privately with a volunteer who will assist in individualized budget development. Included in this free series are all classes with money management materials, snacks, and prizes for attendance. There will be no childcare provided, but parents may bring interested children over age 12. Participants will: Identify their Money Habitudes (values) about money and the way they spend; Learn to prioritize spending; Learn to set up and stick with a spending plan; Set up a financial record-keeping system; Find ways to save money for emergencies and pay off small amounts of debt; and Learn to save money at the grocery store. The Senior Center is currently accepting applications for vendors. There is a $15 vendor fee. Vendor registration and payment deadline is October 31st. Application forms are available at the Granville County Senior Center in Oxford. This bazaar will feature only handmade crafts and artwork from local crafts people. The stew will sell for [Continued On PAGE 8A] Flu Clinics To Be Offered Granville - Vance District Health Departments will be holding flu clinics Friday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. beginning September 21. (The health department will be closed November 23rd). This year’s seasonal flu vaccine provides coverage for H1N1 flu virus and for a new H3N2 flu and influenza B, all of which are expected to be seen in the United States. Everyone is encouraged to get vaccinated against the flu this year. The cost of the flu vaccine is $35.00 and $55.00 for the higher dose flu vaccine recommended by the CDC to provide better protection to individuals 65 years of age and older. The health department accepts Medicare Part B (red, white, and blue card) and Medicaid, as well as Blue Cross Blue Shield and Wellpath for immunizations. Please bring your insurance card, and wear short sleeves so that we may serve the public as efficiently as possible. If you have private Medicare, such as Humana or Premier, you will need to go to your primary care doctor because they will not reimburse us. Some children ages 6 months through 18 years of age may qualify to receive the flu vaccine at no cost. The health department will also be offering the pneumonia vaccine to those who are over age 65, and to those under age 65 who have chronic illnesses. The cost of the pneumonia vaccine is $95.00.
