Mobil Nobles
Nobles, it is with a heavy heart I
must report that Noble Sam Thompson
passed away on January 19, 2013.
It is incredible how many lives he
touched by mentoring men in the
fraternity and its appendant bodies.
Sam introduced me to Masonry and
put me to work at the State Fair food
booth and the Mobil Nobles spaghetti
supper before I even took my obligation!
He meant a great deal to me and
countless others and will be missed
by everyone who knew him. Please
remember to keep his family in your
prayers. Well, Scott Schuster is now
officially welcomed and on his way to
serving in the Divan line, having been
properly introduced at the Little Pig
ceremonial, which was well attended.
A great time was had by the men
downstairs and the ladies upstairs for
Ladies Little Pig, and then all parties
mingled upstairs for a wonderful ending
to a great evening.
Now on to the circus planning
HighRollers
and all the events that go with that
great weekend. As promised, here are
some pictures of our installation from
January. Thanks to Past Potentate John
Friend for installing the officers and
past President Curt Jessup for serving
Clowns
Craig Stevenson
as emcee. It was a special night.
Remember that the Mobil Nobles
meet the second Friday night of every
month with social starting around 6
p.m. and the meeting at 7:30 p.m.
We are everywhere.
Allan Hall
We are coming into spring and your clown Unit is in full swing, preparing
for a very busy year. We are practicing weekly for the circus and the props
have been painted and repaired if needed. Two very capable clowns are in
charge of the circus this year, Paulie and Doodles. The skits were painstakingly
chosen and after many hours of deliberation, we finally threw the list in a hat
and drew out two. Since the circus is in April this year, it gives us more time
to practice so we may actually get the skits right this time—you all need to
attend to see.
We are also gearing up for Great Lakes Shrine Clowns coming to Indy in
April. The dates are the 18th, 19th and 20th if you want to see your clowns in
competition. It will be held at the Clarion Hotel located at 2930 Waterfront
Parkway on the west side of Indy.
We are going to have our honorary clown degree again this year in June—
more to come on that later. Then at the end of June, we have the Imperial
Session and all your clowns and many more will be here. Come out and see us
in action.
We have our 1925 Ford running and ready for the 2013 parade season and
have signed up for some parades, but we can do more. Let me know if you
would like us to come to one.
We are always looking for a few good men to be clowns. We meet on the
second and fourth Wednesdays; come and see what we are about and we will
buy you a Zem-Zem. My number is (317) 716-0676 if you have any questions.
Let me leave you with this thought: it takes 17 muscles to smile and 43 to
frown, so keep smiling.
Bob Hudson
What a great year 2012 was for
Texas Hold’em at Murat. If you missed
the January Stated Meeting, the
HighRollers presented Ill. Sir James
Priest the gross revenues check from
2012 of more than $31,000 raised for
Murat temple from Texas Hold’em
Tournaments.
We would like to thank all of the
nobles who assisted the temple in
the past year. If it were not for those
dedicated volunteers, we would not
have been as successful.
Now is the time to step it up to
the next level for Texas Hold’em.
Anyone can come to help, play, or just
watch. Ninety-five percent of the players
who attend a Texas Hold’em Tournament
are non-Shriners. This means
the money we raise every month is
coming from the local community.
Our player database has grown to
more than 600 players. This means
our attendance is growing rapidly.
The last thing we want to see is our
inability to facilitate the tournament
in accordance with the State Gaming
Commission rules and regulations.
If you or your Unit would like to
learn how to work at a Texas Hold’em
Tournament, all you have to do is
show up. We start preparing for the
tournament at 4 p.m. We would
welcome anyone who would like to
learn registration, the cash room, how
to deal, security, or run the floor. It’s
really a lot of fun and not that difficult
to do.
Our monthly tournament runs
the second Saturday of each month.
Registration begins at 5 p.m. with the
tournament beginning at 6 p.m. We
look forward to seeing you there!
