POTENTATE’S MESSAGE
“WE ARE FAMILY”
Dear Nobles and Ladies,
If you missed the ride on the train to New Orleans for the Southeastern you missed a fun filled
train ride. A great time was had by all, even the train Conductor.
We just completed a very successful and rewarding Hospital Crusade Kickoff. There were two
Shriners Hospitals For Children Ambassadors in attendance: Shay Eskew, as an adult product of
our hospital system and fourteen year old Jeremy Gabriel, who is still in the Shriners Hospitals
For Children. Shay was severely burned when he was eight years old, and after over twenty surgeries
in Shriners Hospitals For Children, he is now 38 and married with 4 children. He did not
let the unfortunate accident he endured hold him back. In October, he will compete in the Iron
Man Competition in Kona, Hawaii, where he will swim 2.5 miles, ride a bike 110 miles and run
26.2 miles all in one day. Jeremy was born with many birth defects, which included facial bone
structure not being developed, his ears only being partially developed and in the wrong place, and his hearing not being
developed. He can now hear and he has a beautiful voice. He sang two songs for us. They both shared their stories
with us, and what great stories they were. Now, let’s all do what we do best, raise money for our hospitals so we can continue
to help children like Jeremy and Shay.
We are off to Panama City October 4 th for our fall outing. We look forward to seeing everyone there and having a
YAARAB good time at the beach.
Next on the calendar, is the 1 st Shriners Hospitals For Children Charity Classic being held at St. Ives Country Club on
October 22. We need the support of all the clubs and units to make this a successful event for our hospitals. The Divan
sponsored Halloween Party will be held October 27 at the Shrine center.
YAARAB Christmas Tree Lighting will be November 17th. Bring your children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors
for the start of the Holiday season at Yaarab Shrine.
Yaarab Treasurer Barry Hulsey resigned his position on the Divan at the September 12 business meeting. He had been
on a leave of absence for personal and business reasons, while on that leave he was involved in a serious accident and
decided to permanently leave the Divan.
PP Steve Padgett has been appointed to fill the remainder of the 2012 year as Treasurer of Yaarab Shrine. This was
done to comply with Imperial By-Laws.
