Collins Cinema 10:30–11:30 AM FACULTY LECTURE: Wellesley’s Meteorites Wendy Bauer, Professor of Astronomy Whitin Observatory 114 WELLESLEY CENTERS FOR WOMEN LECTURE: The Arab Spring: Challenges and Opportunities for Women Rangita de Silva-de Alwis, Director of International Human Rights Policy Programs, Wellesley Centers for Women, and Director of the Women in Public Service Project Summer Institute The Muslim Women’s Network at the Wellesley Centers for Women convened a Round Table in Rabat, Morocco in May 2011. This event brought together women leaders from Arab and Muslim communities to strategize on women’s roles in political transformation, while addressing barriers imposed on them. This initiative, and the follow-up meeting planned for winter 2013, will be discussed. The Women in Public Service Project Summer Institute, which Wellesley College will host with the U.S. State Department this summer for global women leaders, will also be discussed. A particular focus on programming that will support participants from Arab and Muslim communities will be highlighted.
