THE IMPORTANCE OF CLEANING YOUR HOME
A clean house is important for the health and well-being of your entire family. First of all, a dirty house is a germy
house, and the best defense against the spread of illnesses is to keep the germs washed away. The well being of
the family is enhanced by an uncluttered atmosphere. If the rule of “a place for everything and everything in its
place” is observed, the environment will be more serene, and less time will be wasted in looking for lost items. This
is particularly true when you have a modern house design. The clean flow of the lines gets lost when the house is
dirty. In Palm Springs, Ca architects are horrified when they see their creative work trashed with clutter.
Any job requires a good set of tools. For cleaning the house, these tools range from very inexpensive to maybe
not worth the money. Different rooms are cleaned differently, so your toolkit needs to include each type of
equipment. Here are the categories of tools you need:
Bathroom: toilet brush, toilet cleaner, and bathtub spray.
Kitchen: cleanser with bleach, drain opener, broom, dustpan and brush, sponge mop, and general purpose
cleaning liquid.
Living Room & Bedrooms: dusting spray and cloth or duster, and vacuum cleaner with tools.
General Tools: floor cleaner with wax, window cleaner, rubber gloves, bucket, sponges, and rags or microfiber

There are a number of ways that you can schedule your cleaning routine. The first decision is how often you need
the complete house to be cleaned. If you are a stickler for a clean house, you have no choice but to clean all
areas of the house every week.
If you are less strict in your requirements, you can do two areas each week so that the whole house is cleaned
every two to three weeks. If you are more relaxed and can live with a certain amount of messiness and dirt, you
can get away with cleaning one area each week. In this case, the whole house would be finished approximately
every month.

You're more likely to break down in a bad winter – the AA had its busiest day ever on Monday 4 January
2014 and then again, less than 12 months later, on Monday 20 December 2014 when AA patrols handled
more than 28,000 breakdowns.
There's more risk of delays too but not necessarily in the way you'd expect. If vehicles ahead lose control –
a jack-knifed lorry for example – you won't be able to get through no matter how well equipped your car is
with winter tyres or chains. You could face a wait of several hours until the blockage and other traffic
ahead has been cleared.
Here's what you need to do this winter to reduce the risk of a breakdown and make sure that you are
equipped to deal with the conditions.
Check your car:
Antifreeze – check coolant level regularly and, if required, top-up with a mixture of the correct type of antifreeze.
Your garage should check concentration to ensure adequate cold temperature protection.
Battery – the most common cause of winter breakdowns. A battery more than five years old may struggle
in the cold - get it checked and replaced if necessary to avoid the inconvenience of an unplanned failure.
Fuel – keep at least a quarter of a tank in case of unexpected delay.
Lights – check and clean all lights regularly to make sure you can see and be seen clearly. Carry spare
bulbs.
Tyres – should have at least 3mm of tread for winter motoring. Consider winter tyres for improved safety.
Check pressures at least every fortnight.
Windscreen – reduce dazzle from the low sun by keeping the screen clean inside and out. Now is a good
time to renew worn wiper blades.
Screen wash – use a 50% mix of a good quality screen wash to reduce the chance of freezing in frosty
weather.
Locks and door seals – stop doors freezing shut with a thin coat of polish or Vaseline on rubber door seals.
A squirt of water dispersant (WD-40) in locks will help stop them freezing.
You and your passengers
Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. As well as the things you should be carrying on every journey
regardless of the weather, you should make up a winter emergency kit to keep in the boot – hopefully you
won’t need it but you will be very glad it's there if you do.

MAGGIES CULTURE CRAWL WAS A GREAT SUCCESS IN
RAISING OVER £8,000!
On Friday 4 September 85 people (and 2 dogs!) set
off into the Nottingham night, walking 9 miles to
support Maggie’s Nottingham, and exploring cultural,
architectural and artistic delights along the way. Our
Culture Crawl Nottingham adventure stared at our
Centre, and finished at the beautiful Council House in
the heart of Nottingham.
Walkers were treated to snacks from Memsaab at the
New Art Exchange and were entertained by Next
Door Dance as they made their way through the
forest to join the Woolly Tellers at Nottingham Castle
for a unique historical tour.
As the night progressed, the group made their way to
Trent Bridge Cricket Group where cricket fans could
receive a range of refreshments in the members
pavilion. Crossing the finish line saw walkers greeted
by the Lord Major who presented them with their
medals, and rewarded with pizzas, pork pies and a
relaxing massage from the Hairven Angels.
NOTTINGHAM
One of the culture crawl walkers said this:
‘I decided to join the event to raise funds for Maggie’s
Nottingham, which I think is a very special sanctuary
for people and their families dealing with the impact
of cancer, one I understand. I liked that it was a walk
rather than a run to show my support, it seemed more
fitting somehow; calmer and more engaging.
The event was sensitively organised, and applied the
gentle approach that Maggie’s always takes, to an
event which anyone could join in with. We really
enjoyed seeing Nottingham through refreshed eyes,
and the breaks along the walk were very timely, and
made us smile too. The nibbles were terrific as well,
and the relaxing head massage at the finish was
sublime!
We will definitely recommend our friends to join us
next year. We simply loved it!’.

STONE FOOD AND DRINK FESTIVAL
Welcome to Staffordshire’s biggest gastronomic

The Stone Food & Drink Festival has grown from
humble beginnings in the town’s Georgian High
Street into one of the Midlands’ biggest and busiest
food festivals.
Always taking place the first weekend in October,
the event sees Stone’s pubs, bars and foodie
businesses get into the festival spirit with a week-long
programme of quizzes, themed meals and special
offers leading up to the ‘big weekend’ itself, with the
Festival Farmers' Market gracing the High Street on

Westbridge Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday,

and kids' cookery masterclasses, street food - and

Baby changing facilities are provided on the main
food festival site at Westbridge Park.
Cash & Cash Points
There are no cash points on the main Westbridge
Park festival site. Several cash points are located in
Stone High Street, where you’ll also find the Festival
Farmers’ Market on Friday and Saturday, but we
recommend you plan ahead and bring a ready
supply of cash in advance to avoid inconvenience
(some stallholders accept credit and debit cards).

Local Charity calls for Event Sponsorship
