October is here and the weather is gorgeous and cool.
The club will start having quite a few tournaments so
be sure to check the calendar in this newsletter for
information or ask Mike or Liz. Our winter friends will
start coming in so activity around the club should start
buzzing. Don’t forget to call for tee times.
I know it is early but Christmas will be here before
you know it. At the Golf Shop we will be getting new
clubs (toys) and apparel for men, women, and young
boys and girls. So shop early and avoid the last minute
rush. Come check us out. Popular brands such as Nike,
Footjoy, Titleist, and many more.
FEATS: We are always interested in your golf
accomplishments or even a funny story on the way to
the tee, let Liz or Mike know in the Golf Shop.
One of the club’s young golfer, Elijah Galvan, qualified
and was invited to the play in the STPGA Summer
Championships. He played at the Woodlands Palmer
Course in Houston. Elijah played in the 9-10 9-Hole
Modified Division. Elijah was the second youngest
competitor in the field and he shot a 2 day total of 91,
placed 27th. The Harlingen Country Club is very proud
of Elijah and he was proud to represent the club.
On Sept.10th, Durrell Lovell shot a beautiful 75.
Congrats.
On Sept. 10th also, Craig Lonon made a Hole in
One on number 15. His son in law was a witness, Eric
Resendiz. Congrats Craig. On September 12, Erwin
Sanchez shot his best score, a 79. Way to Go Doc.

October 2-3-4: Que Paso Member-Guest
1:00 Shotgun on Friday; 9:00 AM Shotgun on
Saturday and Sunday. Check with the Golf Shop for
non-participant starting times for these 3 days.
October 9: Navy/Army Community Union
Tournament
October 10: Nine and Dine 9 Hole Scramble
October 12: Columbus Day-Club & Course Closed
October 17: MGA One Man Scramble
October 21: WestPoint Class of ’70 Tournament
October 23: Cotton Growers Tournament
October 24: WGA Ladies Pumpkin Tournament
The asterisk by certain events means these are outside
events and members will need to call about course
availability.
The pro shop and golf course will be closed on
Columbus Day, Monday October 12th.
Our Couples event, Wine and Dine in October will be
on the 10th. Chef Gerald will have appetizers and wine
from different countries. Golf will be in the form of a
two person scramble for 9 holes. Time will be at 5:30.
As a reminder our annual “Que Paso” Member –
Guest Tournament will be happening on October 2-3-
4th. Entry forms were mailed out earlier in August. At
the time of this newsletter writing this event is full with
two teams on the waiting list. As a reminder this year we
will have the Titleist/Footjoy Concept Shop to supply
the guest with their gift. All members are welcome
to come. Equipment and merchandise reduced, to an
incredible price. This will be in the Men’s Locker Room
on Friday, October 2nd, ONLY CHANCE at that price.
Thursday, October 1st will be practice round day and
then that evening Calcutta party. This event will be the
highlight of the year!!
On Saturday, October 17th, the MGA will be having
its monthly tournament. This month’s format is the
One Man Scramble. With this format you have the
opportunity to hit two balls every time and take the
best one. This event will be flighted with gross & net
prizes awarded in each flight. Tee off is a 9 AM shotgun.
The entry fee for this event is the $20. Lunch will be
available at the conclusion courtesy of your MGA.

Thank you to all the members that contributed to
“Patriot Golf Day” over the Labor Day long weekend.
Because of your generous donations the club was able to
raise a significant dollar amount for the Folds of Honor
Foundation that provides post-secondary educational
scholarships to children and spouses of military men
and women killed or disabled while serving our Great
Nation.
Don’t forget about our shoe shine service that is
available upon request.
Also, as a reminder we are an Authorized PING
Fitting Center. What this means we are now better able
to customize a new set of clubs to the member giving
consideration to individual size, swing tendencies and
desired ball flight all during one session and under the
watchful eye of your PGA Professional on the driving
range. Seeing the results right out in front of you, can
be so much better than hitting into a net and having a
computer tell you what you need. Any questions or to
