How did the people live in the Black Forest in the
days of yesteryear?
BLACK FOREST OPEN-AIR MUSEUM
Vogtsbauernhof
Turn back the pages of time and relive history as a first-hand experience.
Where the magnificently preserved Vogtsbauernhof farmstead once stood
alone in the open fields, it is now joined by numerous historical buildings
from various regions of the Black Forest to breathe life into times of long
ago. Six fully furnished farmhouses, the day labourer’s cottage and 15 outbuildings,
such as mills, sawmills, barns, stalls, a chapel, storehouses and a
granny house (Leibgedinghaus), invite you to take a stroll and discover the
multifaceted aspects of the Black Forest way of life.
Fascinating demonstrations and events will transport you back to bygone
centuries and will give you a graphic picture of the crafts, tools, customs,
traditions, work and lifestyle of former times.
Visit the dark rooms, soot-blackened kitchens, gardens and surroundings -
and the ancient customs and old-world traditions: the fabric of past life in
the Black Forest will unfold before your very eyes.
Daily events throughout the season make your visit to the museum an
unforgettable experience: whether you witness old crafts and mills in action,
or step into the footprints of our forefathers by taking part in one of
the many hands-on activities. In addition, there are many highlights ranging
from the special day for traditional costumes all the way to our “Schlachtfest”
(traditional end-of-season feast), plus every year a new special exhibition on
Black Forest cultural history. Look forward to a host of exciting events!
Turning learning into fun: living history.
Our educational tours for groups, school children and pre-school children,
accompanied by an experienced guide, will take you on a fascinating journey
through the history of the Black Forest. The choice is yours: a guided tour
on a selected theme – or a tour of your own supplemented by stimulating
hands-on activities.
Feel free to ask for our leaflet on guided tours and events. All our leaflets
