Four Students Commended in 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program
On September 24th, four Sixth Form
students were named “Commended Students”
in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship
Program. Congratulations to (shown left to
right): Heather Deiner, Daani Iqbal, Nolan
Peters and Christelle Fayemi.
More than 1.5 million students took the
2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit
Scholarship Qualifying Test and entered
the National Merit Scholarship Program.
In April, the 50,000 highest scorers were
identified for high schools. Some 16,000
of those high performers were designated
Semifinalists on a state representational basis. The other 34,000
students throughout the nation were recognized as Commended
Students for their exceptional academic promise. Commended
Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million
students who entered the 2015 competition.
“These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing
their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in
the academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational
excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help
broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they
continue their pursuit of academic success.”
“The young men and women being named Commended Students
have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,”
said a spokesperson for National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
In addition, a special congratulations to Christelle Fayemi. She is one
of approximately 1,600 Black American high school students who are
Semifinalists in the 2015 National Achievement Scholarship Program.
Saint James School
Store Gets Makeover
When was the last time you stepped into
the School Store? If you haven’t dropped
by recently, you’re in for a treat. Thanks
to the efforts of parent volunteers, Robin
Lyles (Elliott ‘19 and Hayden ‘17) and
Heather Marshall (Chandler ‘17 and Drake
‘16) and Store Manager, Adam Robertson,
the store has a new look and feel. From
branded rugby and sweatshirts in Saint
James colors to wool caps to water bottles
and tumblers, there is an enticing array of
elegant merchandise. We hope you’ll come
take a look. It’s a great place to do some
holiday shopping!
