THE HOLY EUCHARIST
The Commerce Week began with a mass at the UST
Church.
By: Kate Punzalan
Last September 21, 2015, was the beginning
of The Commerce Week at the UST Church. It started
with a communication with God and was presided by
Rev. Fr. Senen R. Ecleo, O. P. One of his messages to
the Commerce students was that “We are not just
here to study, but to include God in everyday living”;
it means that in everything we do, we should offer it
to Him because without Him we are nothing.
The Gospel of that day was Matthew 9: 9-13.
It talks about a man named Matthew, Jesus saw him
and ask him to follow. Then the Pharisees ask why
the master eats with the sinners and the tax
collectors. And he said “It is not the healthy who
need the doctor, but the sick.” As we all know, Jesus
is the one who helps a lot when we us humans is in
need. He is always willing to give everything in order
for us to be happy even if we don’t deserve what he
gives. And He also said that Mercy is what pleases
me, not sacrifice; indeed I came to call not the
upright, but sinners.
During the singing of Our Father.
Students and faculty members line-up as they receive the Body of
Christ.
The celebration of the Holy Eucharist made
me realized that I should spend time with our Father.
THE RECRUITMENT FAIR
BY LOUIS JOSEPH HALAGO
The recruitment fair is one of
the most exciting part of this
semester specially for the
freshmen, like us. Because
here you can join so many
astonishing organizations like
Mediatrix, Red Cross, Yellow
Jackets, and etc. The
advantages if you join one or
more organization is you can
develop your attitude and
skills. And you are not only
joining an organization
because this is not only an
organization but also a
family. You can meet so
many friends here when you
join. And this can help
develop and mold your
personality. This will also
help you in your studies and
help you all that they can to
keep you satisfied.
This event had me and the
UST Students so amazed by
the school's awesome
organization. And this can
make the whole semester or
the whole year exciting for
us, UST Students.
The recently concluded Amazing Race
MMXV event, which was one of the highly touted
program during the Commerce Week, garnered
many participants from different year levels and
courses in the College of Commerce and Business
Administration. Relatively the event was well
prepared for it was an annual event, the organizers
prepared difficult and challenging obstacles such
as the spider-web-like rope, riddle and crawl to
name a few. The Amazing Race tested the mental,
physical and emotional capabilities of each
contestants. Although these factors verified each
contestants’ abilities, the real essence of the event
was to promote values such as teamwork and
cooperation.
One of the teams that exemplifies these
exceptional skills and talent is no other than the
champion team. The group is made of students
from section 2HR1, mainly Kim Jose, Prince
Marquez, Adrian Cruz, Mack Agoncillo, Colleen
Flores, Mariell Kua, Matthew Robles, Brixter
Santos, Mia Martelino and Ana Sola. As I came
across these victorious ladies and gentlemen for
an interview, they answered some of my questions
with humility and bragging rights.
“Why did you decide to join the Amazing
Race?” The group mused: “We decided to join the
game because we just wanted to have fun. We
didn’t really thought of winning at first. All we
wanted was to enjoy the game.”
“For us, the most challenging was the first
obstacle, wherein each one of us needed to cross
the spider-web-like rope without touching it. We
had a hard time planning our strategy which gave
us a hard time finishing the obstacle.” Said Mia
Martelino, a member from the group. The team
also expounded that teamwork was their key in
winning the race.
“What are the things that you learned
during the race?” The team pondered: “We’ve
learned that teamwork and cooperation are really
the essential factors when it comes to a group
activity. These are the most important things that
you need to have in order to achieve your goals as
a group.”
As I conclude the interview, I asked them:
“Was there a point in the race where you wanted
to give up?” The group answered confidently:
“We didn’t thought of giving up. That was maybe
the last thing in our minds during the race.
Whether we win or lose, the show must go on. We
really wanted to finish the race, and giving up has
never been an option for us.”
These victorious ladies and gentlemen
were indeed the most deserving team to grab the
gold. Besides from acquiring unique sets of skills
in winning the race, they also embody the values
that helped them in having a smooth victory.
WHAT A GREAT WAY TO UNWIND!
A free film viewing was given for the whole commerce community for the students to further enhance
their knowledge on the corporate world.
BY KAYLA BULARIO
Way back in high school, during our National Book Week Celebration, We also had this event in our
school, St. Theresa’s College Q.C. called “Donate a Book and Watch a Movie”. The donated materials
by the students will be gathered and the Learning Resource Center will pass it to our partner
communities like Gawad Kalinga and etc.
I didn't expect that even if I’m in a higher education now, I can still have the chance and experience
this kind of event. The University of Santo Tomas Commerce and Business Administration Student
Council together with CBA-PAX Romana and CBA-Comelec gave a free film showing for the whole
commerce community. The movies that they have prepared are in line with the Commerce Week’s
theme which is Intensifying Thomasian values in business. The movie house was open since the first
day of the commerce week up to the second day; its showing time was from 3:00PM until 8:00PM
T
he films that they have set are surely in line with theme of the Commerce’s Week. These films are
Pursuit of Happiness, 3 Idiots, The Internship, Wall Street and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
These Movies show what Thomasian values are; Commitment, Competence and Compassion. In the
movie, Pursuit of Happiness we can Will Smith’s commitment to his child and his competence to his
work. As you can see, what we learn inside the classroom and outside the classroom are two different
things. We can experience different circumstances.
This Movie House activity that was prepared by the CBASC team is a great way to unwind from all
the school stress and pressure. At the same time, the movies that were prepared were really helpful to
the whole commerce community. The movies are focused on real life situations wherein all of us can
relate and dwell on it. 7
FOOD, FASHION, AND TRENDS

A trade fair was presented by the
USTEPRENEUR that was held throughout
the commerce week.
BY MELAIKA VARCA
Burger and fries are the best match for
your meal. While a dress and a pair of stilettos
are the perfect combination for your daily
outfit of the day, but you can’t go hand in
hand with a dress and fries. Food and fashion
are unlikely to be a good mixture for each
other. But when it comes to trends these two
different things could likely go together.
A trade fair was held through out the
commerce week. It is a small
exhibition organized, where the latest
trends in fashion and food are
showcased. During the fair, the
commerce students dropped by at the
third floor lobby, where the exhibit
was showcased. It was open all
through out the week.
This kind of event develops
the entrepreneurial skills of the
commerce students by experiencing
how to sell their products wisely.
They sold iPhone cases, accessories,
clothes, and even cupcakes.
Throughout the event it showed
that food has a passion for
fashion too the. Presentation of
how the food was prepared and
how it looked like after all the
preparation. Fashion meets food
during the trade fair all those
spices used in food were showed
on the accessories that were
being sold.
Food and fashion aren’t
really that different when it
comes to trends. They both
influence society because people
get inclined with the latest
8
The commerce week wouldn't be complete without a battle
between the 5 different courses of the College of Commerce and
Business Administration.
SPORTS ACTION!
An intense basketball game between the
MARKETING (UST JMA) and FINANCE
(JFINES)
BY RENZ PILAPIL
The marketing (UST JMA) won versus the
Finance (JFines). The game was so intense.
first quarter of the game, the score was 14-7 in
favor of marketing and in second quarter, the
score was 20-13 in favor again by marketing.
The third quarter, the score was 32-24 which
means the marketing team still lead the game.
A GREAT GAME PLAYED BY THE ENTREPRENEURS
Tug of War game between the MARKETING vs. ENTREP!
BY JERALD BONDOC
The Entrepreneur students
won the hard fought game
versus the Marketing students
in a tug of war game held
outside, beside the seminar
gym. Before they started,
players from each team were
teaming up and making
strategies. The rule of the
game is when the first player
of each team stepped on the
line where the center of the
rope is, they will lose. The
game is a race to three win.
Before the game starts, the
crowd from each department
was cheering the players up.
Then when the 1 st round
started, players were strongly
pulling the rope. You can see
the determination of their
faces; you can see the hunger
to strive. And after a few
seconds players from the
marketing department were
not able to pull the
entrepreneurs and lose the
first round. 1-0 is the score
set by the officials. The
second round started, crowds
were screaming and
shouting for their respective
team and cheering them up!
After the tiring and hard
fought round the
entrepreneurs won. 2-0 is
the score in favor of the
Entrepreneurs. While the
marketing players are trying
to group up and get back on
track to win the game.
Players are given a time to
rest and shake their hands.
The third round started. The
Entrep finished the game
with a 3-0 score over the
Marketing players.
Although the Marketing
team loses against the
stronger Entrep team, they
accepted it and congratulate
the winners (Entrepreneur
team). It’s a great and
exciting game both team
exerted effort.
she was bullied
because she had
a hard time with
her English
grammar until
she joined at her
trying until she improved on her
grammar and became the school’s
editor-in-chief then the president of
She started the talk with a question
“Where is marketing” Marketing
the Gray areas of business.
As a Thomasian Marketer we are
trained to be competent once we
reach to the corporate world. Ms.
should always aim for excellence
and never settle for just the
average. We should always start
start producing. We should always
procrastination
be an obstacle to
us. Compassion,
manager, she
told us to be
compassionate to
others especially when we reach
the corporate world. We shouldn't
be thinking about ourselves, we
should also include other people’s
welfare. Ms. Posadas encourages
us to be passionate striving for our
goals. She told us to be passionate
college.” Followed by the singing
of the UST hymn.
THE COMMERCE NIGHT MMXV
The much awaited event of the week was
the Commerce Night where different talented
people performed. This event gave the students
a break from all the school works and away
from the four walls of the classroom. The night
gave the students the opportunity to interact
with other people. In other words, it was an
amazing way to end the week.
The Commerce Night was held at the
University of Santo Tomas, Quadricentennial
Pavilion, Last Thursday, September 26, 2015.
The location of the event was a convenient
place because of it’s air-conditioned room and a
huge place for the crowd to celebrate. The event
was prepared by the UST Commerce and
Business Administration Student Council
(CBASC). They’re the one who’s behind all the
success that happened all through out the night.
Students from different schools and
colleges came to watch the different bands and
Djs perform. Outside the pavilion there were
freebies from the sponsors and photo booths for
the students to enjoy before entering the
pavilion. The highlight of the event was when
everybody sang along and waved their hands in
the air when Up Dharma Down played the song
Tadhana from their album capacities. Although
everyone expected Marc Marasigan to perform
he was not able to perform for the event due to
some problems in the booking. Nonetheless, the
night was finished by DJ Jet Boado.
To sum up, the night was definitely a night
to remember and one for the books.
