Aside from all the fun games and activities. A confluence was held last September 23, 2015, where the first and second year marketing students of the University of Santo Tomas were assembled in the AMV multipurpose hall. The theme for the Marketing confluence was corporate social responsibility. There were three speakers for the confluence and for them to expound the significance of the theme. he marketing confluence started T with an opening prayer, which was lead by Pax Romana, followed by the opening remarks conducted by the Marketing Management Chair Asst. Prof. Riaz Benjamin. He introduced the professors of the Marketing students when they reach the third year level. Kristel Marie F. Gonzales, the first speaker graduated from the University of Santo Tomas, BS Business Administration Major in Marketing Management. Ms. Gonzales is currently studying at the University of the Philippines Open University and at the same time working as a Policy researcher and Writer in the office of Senator Grace Poe. In her elementary days Ms. Gonzales told us she was bullied because she had a hard time with her English grammar until she joined at her school’s publication. Her grammar didn’t stop her from joining. She kept on trying until she improved on her grammar and became the school’s editor-in-chief then the president of the debate club. She started the talk with a question “Where is marketing” Marketing is needed in the government, Marketers are important in our country. She showed the students a commercial that influenced the Filipino people to pay their taxes because it will help lift the economy of the Philippines. Ms. Gonzales said “take the Marketing HAT, always.” Take Marketing with a HEART, a good marketing person’s results to a great marketing. With an ATTITUDE, Marketing nourishes positive attitude. She told us to start embracing out strengths. Marketing works if you THINK. We should always think before we act, to police ourselves if were doing something that is against our ethics. “Madali mangrap para sa sarili natin, pero mahirap mangarap para sa iba” says Ms. Gonzales. She challenges and at the same time inspires us to dream for others. The second speaker was Mr. Pedro Pamitan. He is now an assistant manager at Century Pacific group and a Managing Director at Alpha Ones events and promotions management, Inc. Building brands through “ABC Framework” was his topic. A “You’ll find yourself more fulfilled in the long run if you dream for others” - Ms. Gonzales stands for the AUDIENCE, or the target market as he called. He talked about the brands audience and how well do we know and understand them, it is by Defining Category. Next is Strategic Target, it is where broad consumer segments within the defined category. And the last one is the Prime Prospect – they were the sub-set of the strategic partner. Strategy is also need, that’s why the letter B is for BRAND POSITIONING. They work together for CONNECTING themselves in a marketplace. The last but not the least, Ms. Abigail Posadas, RMP was the third speaker for the confluence. Like the rest of the speakers, she graduated with a BS Business Administration Major in Marketing Management. She used to have the best She is currently a Business Development Executive at BlueDynamics Inc. She talked about the Thomasian values in business, which were competence, commitment, and compassion. She also talked about the Gray areas of business. As a Thomasian Marketer we are trained to be competent once we reach to the corporate world. Ms. Posadas talked about how we should always aim for excellence and never settle for just the average. We should always start She told us to stop whining and start producing. We should always be determined to try our best in our studies. The second Thomasian value is to be committed with our goals. Thomasians are known for being dedicated. We should strive to do our best in whatever we do. Whether it may be small or big we shouldn't let procrastination be an obstacle to us. Compassion, in being a manager, she told us to be compassionate to others especially when we reach the corporate world. We shouldn't be thinking about ourselves, we should also include other people’s welfare. Ms. Posadas encourages us to be passionate striving for our goals. She told us to be passionate with our goal, we should enjoy it while we’re trying to strive for us to reach excellence. The closing remarks by Mr. Eric Paquin, Adviser of the Junior Marketing Association to formally end the confluence. He ended the confluence with a statement “Mediocrity is not an option in our college.” Followed by the singing of the UST hymn. 13
