The recently concluded Amazing Race
MMXV event, which was one of the highly touted
program during the Commerce Week, garnered
many participants from different year levels and
courses in the College of Commerce and Business
Administration. Relatively the event was well
prepared for it was an annual event, the organizers
prepared difficult and challenging obstacles such
as the spider-web-like rope, riddle and crawl to
name a few. The Amazing Race tested the mental,
physical and emotional capabilities of each
contestants. Although these factors verified each
contestants’ abilities, the real essence of the event
was to promote values such as teamwork and
cooperation.
One of the teams that exemplifies these
exceptional skills and talent is no other than the
champion team. The group is made of students
from section 2HR1, mainly Kim Jose, Prince
Marquez, Adrian Cruz, Mack Agoncillo, Colleen
Flores, Mariell Kua, Matthew Robles, Brixter
Santos, Mia Martelino and Ana Sola. As I came
across these victorious ladies and gentlemen for
an interview, they answered some of my questions
with humility and bragging rights.
“Why did you decide to join the Amazing
Race?” The group mused: “We decided to join the
game because we just wanted to have fun. We
didn’t really thought of winning at first. All we
wanted was to enjoy the game.”
“For us, the most challenging was the first
obstacle, wherein each one of us needed to cross
the spider-web-like rope without touching it. We
had a hard time planning our strategy which gave
us a hard time finishing the obstacle.” Said Mia
Martelino, a member from the group. The team
also expounded that teamwork was their key in
winning the race.
“What are the things that you learned
during the race?” The team pondered: “We’ve
learned that teamwork and cooperation are really
the essential factors when it comes to a group
activity. These are the most important things that
you need to have in order to achieve your goals as
a group.”
As I conclude the interview, I asked them:
“Was there a point in the race where you wanted
to give up?” The group answered confidently:
“We didn’t thought of giving up. That was maybe
the last thing in our minds during the race.
Whether we win or lose, the show must go on. We
really wanted to finish the race, and giving up has
never been an option for us.”
These victorious ladies and gentlemen
were indeed the most deserving team to grab the
gold. Besides from acquiring unique sets of skills
in winning the race, they also embody the values
that helped them in having a smooth victory.
