STARTING OUT WITH RHYTHM!
For classes with no previous knowledge of rhythms, start by using a variety of
available cuddly toys, for example;
and
Dollies!
Owl!
Learn the song;
Thank You God for the Harvest
from
A Combined Harvest
Give each child a set of rhythm sticks then make a 4 beat pattern with the toys,
for example;
“Dollies!”
“Owl!”
“Dollies!”
“Owl!”
TRY
THIS!
• Can the children make the sound of the pattern on their rhythm sticks?
• Can they repeat the pattern 4 times with Verse 1 of the song?
• Make 5 different patterns by pausing the music between each Verse
and changing the position of the toys
• Make one of the Owls lie down on it’s side and have a ‘rest’. The class
should then stop playing every time they come to the ‘rest’
