First, choose some children who have 1 or 2 syllables in their names.<br />
Now make a 4 beat pattern using the children’s’ names, standing all 4 of them in a line.<br />
e.g.: BEN CLAIRE ANDREW JILL<br />
Give the remaining children sets of rhythm sticks.<br />
Can they play the names throughout Verse 1 of the song?<br />
Ask one child to sit down and have a rest.<br />
Play the new pattern stopping at the ‘rest’.<br />
Now explain that music notes also have names and introduce the words<br />
TAA and TAA-TAI.<br />
Draw the following music notes on the board and let the children play the pattern for<br />
verse one of the song.<br />

Introduce the symbol for ‘rest’ and let the class play the following pattern<br />
to Verse 2 of the song.<br />
