The Beginnings
The life-giving water attracted
the first settlers to this area. Later
on, also the street structure of
the settlement, which has 32
thousand inhabitants now,
was formed based on the onetime
water system. Reeds,
marshes, meadows and gallery
forests dominated over
the landscape. Wetlands with
lush vegetation and rich fauna
determined the view.
