• Register early and get in the course you want! The CE 

calendar appears online prior to distribution, go to 

www.acad.ca for your earliest opportunity to register. 

Some courses fill very quickly, and lower enrolled 

classes can be cancelled within one week prior to their 

start date. 

• If you would like to register online, you will need a 

student ID number (call the office). 

• Full fee payment is required when you register. 

• Post-dated cheques are not accepted. 

• No cash after 4pm or on Saturdays. 

• Adult courses are intended for persons 18 years of age 

and over.

WITHDRAWAL REQUESTS + REFUNDS 

Withdrawal requests must be in writing and can be 

submitted by email to coned@acad.ca or in person to the 

Continuing Education office. Your request will be in effect 

from the date we receive the written request. Please be 

sure to include: your name as it appears on your ACAD 

student record, the title of the course, the reason you 

are withdrawing, and any relevant documentation like a 

physician’s note. 

Refunds are based on eligibility as follows: 

a. A processing fee of $60 + GST is charged on all 

withdrawals 

b. Full tuition may be refunded up to seven calendar 

days prior to the course start date 

c. Half tuition may be refunded during the period from 

the seventh day prior to the course start date up to 

the start of the second class 

d. No tuition will be refunded once the second class 

starts 

e. Medical: must be supported by a doctor’s note or 

relevant medical documentation 

Requests for exemption to the above conditions due 

to medical circumstances much be accompanied by a 

physician’s note. 

TRANSFERS 

One time only, where space permits and before the 

second class, Continuing Education will transfer you to a 

different course within the same semester at no additional 

cost. When there is a difference in the course fees, we will 

charge the extra or retain the balance on your account 

(that balance is not available for refund; it must be used 

for an Continuing Education course). 

DISCOUNTS 

Continuing Education offers a 10% discount on most 

courses to ACAD alumni and to seniors 65 years and 

up (travel programs, special workshops and events are 

not included). Please alert us when you register; we do 

not revise registration payments for the discount once 

completed.

Please ask to be placed on the wait list if your course is 

full. If space becomes available, we will contact those on 

the wait list in the order they were placed on the list.

ACAD CONTINUING EDUCATION CERTIFICATES 

ACAD Continuing Education Certificates of Achievement are available in Graphic Design, 

Illustration, Jewellery Skills, Digital Photography, and Visual Arts. These certificate programs 

are for personal growth and provide students with basic skills and an enriched knowledge 

base of processes and practices. Continuing Education certificate courses are credit-free, 

less rigorous, and more flexible than degree courses, allowing students to move through their 

learning pathway at their own pace. All courses are taught by professionals working in their 

respective fields with real world, professional experience, and knowledge. Please note: these 

Certificates of Achievement are not industry endorsed.

Learn how to create and bind your own books; for use as artist 

books, notebooks, cook books, or photo albums. You will gain 

a solid understanding of Japanese Stab, Accordion, and Coptic 

bindings, and will quickly discover the advantages and appeal 

of each of these bindings so you can make informed decisions 

about which type to use on specific projects. You will complete 

at least three books, and have the opportunity to experiment 

with different types and weights of paper. Please see your course

Learn how to create a one of a kind book with one of the

Learn technical and aesthetic aspects of throwing functional 

forms on the potter’s wheel. You will explore the concept of 

utility in relation to form and expression, with a focus on specific

GRAPHIC DESIGN I 

Gain a solid understanding of visual communication design 

and the role of a graphic designer. Learn to solve problems 

and generate ideas through sketching and drawing, which will 

develop your abilities. Emphasis will be on using the elements 

and principles of design effectively while you work on in-class 

projects that push your creativity. You will use a variety of 

graphic methods to communicate ideas with images, typography,

A backyard shed doesn’t have to be just for storing tools and 

tires. A shed can be a place to curl up with a book, drink a cup of 

tea, listen to your vinyl collection, or be creative. Join the growing 

Shedism movement and design and build your own shed. Your 

instructor will help you figure out how to plan, design, draw, 

and estimate your materials cost. Get introduced to different 

architectural styles, design aesthetics and practicalities—bylaws, 

new and recycled materials, and structural soundness. You 

will be on your way to building it yourself or with the help of a

PHOTOSHOP ESSENTIALS 

PREREQUISITE Basic Mac environment, this course is delivered on a

Photoshop is the industry standard for digital image creation and 

manipulation and is a must for those working in digital imaging 

for either print or web. Learn basic techniques in just a weekend 

that will allow you to modify images through colour correction 

and compositing. You will use the program tools, adjust image 

resolutions, use different selection methods, and work with 

basic editing and file adjustments. Be pleasantly surprised by 

how easy it is to grasp fundamental concepts and how quickly

Take your digital photography to the next level and learn how 

to use Photoshop CS6, the most widely used imaging editing 

software used by professional photographers and designers 

alike. You will be introduced to colour correction, retouching, 

exposure correction, and compositing; discover how to use 

layers, masks, channels, and histories; and work with RAW files, 

and conversions. Learn quick-key short cuts for a more effective 

and streamlined workflow, and gain a clear understanding of the

to a new level of technical refinement. This practical, hands-on 

workshop will show you the fine art of hand-knotting silk cord 

between beads, and finishing ends the professional way, utilizing

The cities of Uzbekistan have been cultural crossroads where

and ruled by a shifting mélange of Persian, Ottoman, Muslim and 

Christian warriors, Uzbekistan is rich in archeological treasures: 

palaces, mosques, and mausoleums immortalizing emperors, 

tyrants, and khans; ancient cities and markets. The sweeping 

scale of the landscape is a perfect counterpoint to the elaborate 

detailing of the turquoise mosaics that cover many structures. 

Join us on our modern day caravan off the beaten track to see 

the splendor, vastness, and exotic markets of the rich Fergana 

Valley and the Silk Road cities of Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva. 

Based in the capital city of Tashkent, we will explore this Russianinfluenced,

Create a beautiful cyan blue print on watercolour paper that

use them. Discuss design principles as you piece together a 

mosaic-like piece of art for hanging on your wall or placing in

THE FINE JEWELLERY WAY 


Frustrated with fishing line and hobby cords? Unhappy with 

clamshells, bead tips, or unsightly cord ends at the clasp? 

Increase the value of your work by elevating your stringing skills 

to a new level of technical refinement. This practical, hands-on 

workshop will show you the fine art of hand-knotting silk cord 

between beads, and finishing ends the professional way, utilizing 

French coil. You will construct a hand-knotted necklace and 

(as time allows) a matching pair of earrings. A material cost of 

approx. $25/student will be payable at class to cover sterling 

silver findings (pearl clasp, earring hooks, head pins), silk cord, 

and French coil. You may bring your own pearls/beads, or may 

choose from a variety of coloured freshwater pearls and findings
