PREREQUISITE Previous painting experience in water-based media
INSTRUCTOR Jean Pederson
Work in traditional watercolours or open the door to explore
combinations of water-based paints and mediums of all kinds.
You will choose weekly topics for your instructor’s presentation,
followed by open studio time for your explorations. Emphasis will
be on design, personal style, critiques, and studio work. Please

OIL PAINTING TECHNIQUES
INSTRUCTOR Lori Lukasewich
The very nature of oil paints allows for artists to work and rework
their paintings to create a wide range of textures from
smooth, subtle, glowing finishes achieved by slowly building
up thin layers of glaze; to rough, energetic, thick applications
of paint that build up quickly and heavily on a canvas. Your
instructor will lead you through a sequence of in class exercises
that introduce you to a number of different techniques and how

PATTERN PAINTING
INSTRUCTOR Lauren Walker
Patterns are everywhere—they can be big and bold, or diminutive
and delicate. Explore patterns and their origins as you instructor
leads you on a mark making investigation in the studio. Focus
on composition and colour theory as you consider juxtaposing
patterns and pairing them so they work together, or against each

PREREQUISITE Painting experience in the medium of your choice
INSTRUCTOR Jamie Morris
With an emphasis on how drawing and painting work hand-inhand,
you will learn to paint with a sculptural understanding
of the human form gaining confidence and an ability to
quickly capture the human form and face. Expect occasional
homework assignments. You can choose to work in acrylic, oil, or

PAINTING A DAY
PREREQUISITE Acrylic Painting I or Oil Painting I
INSTRUCTOR Mark Vazquez Mackay
Get in the studio and paint quickly, efficiently, and succinctly.
Keep your focus on the most important aspects of your
composition and subject matter as you begin and complete
a full painting each class. You will be asked to sustain your
practice between classes as a way of increasing your output and
improving your painting abilities. Your instructor will give you
feedback as you work and conduct quick group critiques during
each class, which will be important to your artistic growth. The
use of oil or acrylic paints is your choice. Individual technical
guidance will be provided for both mediums. Please see your
