Imagine your own images on fabric! Print your own designs on<br />

canvas, yardage or T-shirt using inks and pigments. You will<br />

learn how to print with hand-cut stencils and how to transfer<br />

your design on the screen using the photo emulsion process. A<br />

silkscreen will be supplied to use in class to create unique textiles<br />

for artworks or functional pieces. Most supplies are included in<br />

the fee, but please see your course supply list online for practical<br />

items. Be sure to come prepared for the first class.<br />

Temari balls are a folk art form that originated in China and made<br />

it way to Japan in the 7th century and has been treasured in<br />

both cultures for centuries. The intricate designs that are created<br />

through wrapping brightly coloured thread around a ball form,<br />

symbolize friendship and loyalty and well wishes for a happy life<br />

to the recipient. Your instructor will discuss the history and show<br />

you, step by step how to create your very own Temari balls. You<br />

will be able to pick your colour palettes and patterns to make one<br />

of a kind art pieces. Many of your supplies are included in the fee,<br />

but please see the course supply list online for some items. Be<br />

sure to come prepared for the first class.<br />

Temari balls are traditionally given as presents on New Year’s Day<br />

as a symbol of friendship and loyalty. Make your own temari ball<br />

to give as a gift, or keep for yourself. Your instructor will have<br />

simple patterns for you to choose from and will lead you through<br />

the process from start to finish. Please see your course supply list<br />

GLASSBLOWING I<br />

Discover the beauty of glass as a medium for artistic expression.<br />

You will learn the basic processes of hot glasswork, with a focus<br />

on solid and simple blown forms, in a studio environment limited<br />

to eight students in order to give you optimum access to all<br />

equipment and to your instructor. NOTE: ONLY natural fibre<br />

clothing (cotton), long pants and closed-toe shoes are mandatory<br />

in the hot shop at all times. Please see your course supply list<br />
