Designing Active Learning Spaces
Gerardo Martinez......................................................... Emerald Bay 3
Design is about how things work. Technology in our hands fundamentally
changes the dynamic between teacher and student, providing an
opportunity to design learning experiences that respond to a student’s
capacity to learn. Content delivery and pedagogy are being revolutionized
daily and require active learning environments as students exercise higher
order thinking skills through digital media, project-based learning,
STEM education, and maker spaces. The flipped classroom and blended
learning have enabled teachers to create active learning but the classroom
space may not be addressing the learning needs beyond passive learning.
Learn how design thinking can lead to informed and researched-based
decisions for redesigning active learning classrooms and professional
learning environments.
