Plenary Session • 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. • Friday, December 4
Pacific Ballrooms 2-4
Julie Evans
Chief Executive Officer
Project Tomorrow
For the past 13 years, the Speak Up Research Project has collected and reported
on the views of almost 4 million K-12 students, educators and parents regarding
digital learning. Using current and longitudinal Speak Up data, we will provide
new insights into the students’ vision for the use of games, mobile devices and
digital content within learning, and counter mythology with the authentic views of
teachers and parents regarding technology use within instruction. Going beyond
anecdotes and assumptions, this interactive and eye-opening presentation will
provide leaders with new metrics for evaluating the pulse of eLearning in their
school or district.
Session 1 • 9:50 - 10:50 a.m. • Friday, December 4
You’ve Got to Move it, Move it!
Nicol Howard, PhD.........................................................Balboa Bay 1
Blended learning rotation models are spinning and spreading like wildfire
as teachers seek to increase student engagement in the midst of changing
and flexible classrooms. Within the rotation model, students move and
grove between self-paced/personalized learning (often online) and small
group instruction. This session is designed to support and encourage your
implementation of rotation models in your K-5 classrooms.
Office of Education, in choosing a new Learning Management System.
Beginning with the RFP process and working through stages of
evaluation, implementation, and production, we will discuss the methods
and materials used/developed to determine the best LMS that fit our
instructional and technological needs. These methods and materials
(provided) can be used with any size district and are easily modified to
fit the individual needs of any district/county office looking to replace or
Key Strategies for Designing Professional Development for
Teachers of Blended Courses
Chris Grado................................................................... Emerald Bay 2
This collaborative and interactive session culminates in ideas that identify
key strategies for designing professional development for teachers of
blended high school courses. Schools are moving toward more blended
learning as technology becomes easily accessible to students. A welltrained
teacher can expand upon the online components of the blended
classroom. Research indicates that students achieve more if their teachers
are well-versed in the pedagogical strategies and techniques necessary for
blended learning.
A Blended Learning Roadmap: 6 Essential Elements
Allison Powell............................................................... Emerald Bay 3
Schools and educational systems around the world are moving to blended
learning environments. iNACOL spent a year identifying elements and
tools needed for successful blended learning planning, implementation
and sustainability while working with schools across the U.S., resulting in
the iNACOL blended learning roadmap. In this workshop, we will provide
school leaders with the elements, tools and metrics needed for planning,
implementing and sustaining a successful blended learning program.
